So my truck is going to be 2yrs old in 2 momths. About 3 months ago I notice the oem battery was wet on the top and causing my terminals to become corroded. Made appt with toyota and because of covid I couldn’t go right in. No biggie. So when I got in, the tech( probs a lube tech) said its normal for some fluid to come out from the top because they leak out the vents when you offroad. So they cleaned up the terminals and battery and said it was good. 2 weeks later it died on me at work on a super hot day. Just literally turn the key and click dead, no lights on dash nothing. So sunday there closed, needed my truck the next day so I bought whatever battery was available. I gave the battery so I wouldn’t pay the 25$ core charge and was on my way. Do you think toyota would help me out being I just went in for it and then dead bird? Or Because I gave the original battery away they cant so anything? Also Im looking for the best jump starter when I go camping. Sorry long post, thanks in advance.

You’re probably out of luck as far as Toyota goes (although it won’t hurt to try). There are lots of options for jump starters. Everyone will tell you the one they have is the best. I have the Lemsir QD5P. Can’t tell you how it is, I’ve never had to use it. Just do some research and go with your gut.

I have the same NOCO Boost HD GB70 as ProStar190 does and it's great. I've not had to use it on my truck however, it has ports for USB charging and also a handy flash light. I would also tend to follow what tttrdpro says and just follow your gut. Find something in your price range with the features you're looking for.

I have the noco too. I’ve used it to jump work trucks and co workers cars and it still has a charge.

Slightly off topic, but I give some dude a jump cause his car was dead, and should have never done it. When I connected the cables there was major sparks at the battery, and nothing on his end. I jumped to disconnect them, and the cables were hot as hell. I swear; never again. Fortunately my truck is fine, and it caused no damage, but if I ever run into someone who needs a jump I will have something like these Noco units, and I will never connect my truck to another vehicle.

I've purchased 4 Beatit Jump Boxes off Amazon one for me and others as gifts. They were around $90-100 1/2 the price of Noco chargers and 2000 amps. No issues so far. I was able to jump a Ford F250 no problem.

I have the smaller GB40 and it works well. Held a charge > 1 year and jumped a couple of trucks already. Plus the kiddos love the USB connection to charge their devices.

My 2018 CM's battery bought the farm about a month ago. I'm talking 6 feet under DEAD! I couldn't even jump it. My local dealership said that "YES", they will probably cover and replace said battery since my truck is less then three years old; but that I had to somehow get the truck to the dealership with said DEAD battery attached. So, they agreed to tow my truck; verified that the charging system was fine; and replaced the DOA battery with an 84-month Toyota True Start battery. I big pain in the ass, but at least my local dealership took care of it free of any charge!

It's really too bad that you gave up your OEM battery as a core as there is little chance of a Toyota replacement without the original.

its all good. I rather waste 140$ and 1hr of my time vs leaving my truck over night at my work place, finding a ride to my truck to get it towed, then probably waste 3-4hrs at toyota waiting for a new battery. Probably would have to take time off of work to get all that. Kinda sucks but it is what it is but in glad u got to do all the things I had planned the day it died. Ill still let them know though

Lead Acid Automotive Batteries should last approximately four years (depending on usage, storage and abuse). Even conventional (free floating electrolyte) should not leak from the upper portion of the case. There are preventative measures manufactures put into place that prevents water loss or spillage. Some we measure at 90 degrees continuous, without any water loss. If you OFF ROAD often get an AGM Battery, expensive but will take the abuse. getting off topic. Its about plates and all that.

When our company made jump packs in the past, they were 14Volts (7 cell lead acid battery, 2 volts nominal per cell) in order to jump a 12 volt automotive battery. We couldn't compete with the prices of the 12 volt. So the 12 volt lead acid jump packs are somewhat under powered, but they are popular and relatively inexpensive. Self discharge is higher on lead acid, but better at extreme temperatures.

Now to your question, best Jump Pack. I purchased a reliable Lithium Ion based unit with 14.4volts (4 cells, 3.6 volts nominal per cell). The self discharge is better. Biggest downside to Lithium Ion batteries are that they don't like temperatures above 100 degrees F, or temps below 32 degrees F (like your cell phone). Other than that your good. Hopefully you live in a mild climate.

    Hope that helps.

I've used this one several times for myself and to assist others on the road; a jump starter and air pump in on. Works great and stores in my Undercover swing case in the bed area. If I didn't have that storage, I'd get that NOCO GB70 for it's small size.

These things are useless if they don't work when you need them. And they are not items that are typically used very often. I typically have to jump start a vehicle once every couple of years. So if I get one, charge it, and store it in my truck for 1-2 years (on the Gulf Coast where ambient temps often are in the high 90's and can exceed 100 deg F), will it work when I need it? I have my doubts.

I have a no-name one that I got at Costco a few years back. I store it in the center console of my truck - there is a power outlet in there - and keep it plugged in. The charge tops off every time I drive.

Project Farm is the best. The 2000mAh Audew went out of stock for a LONG time after he posted that video. It happens all the time for his videos, it's great.

This is where I would store one as well. But Li Ion batteries have a nasty habit of catching fire due to hydrogen gas buildup. That is one of my fears. And keeping a Li Ion battery charged 100% like that will kill the battery over time - possibly enough to keep it from working when I need it to.

I may be overthinking this but at this point I don't think so. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I bought this at an estate sale 5+ yrs ago for $10 it was still in the shipping box took it home and looked it up on line with SN and found out it was already 10 yrs old
Charged it for over 24 hrs before the light said it was fully charged it’s been my go to jump starter ever since
    AC7B149F-3A08-4E45-A0F7-39C9A898EA66.jpg
It works great I use it a lot in the late fall to start a diesel air compressor on frosty mornings
I’ll be purchasing a Li Ion soon though cause this thing gets freakin heavy
