So now I suddenly have to tow a trailer for 10 hours on crappy roads with a load of 4 people in the truck the day after Christmas and I'd like to get a shocker hitch so I don't get my teeth knocked out. I don't know where I could find one on a Sunday, the day before Christmas no the less. I am just south of San Diego and have to tow back to north of San Francisco. Help!

Wish I could help you out man. We were just told that we'll be carrying these at work but haven' gotten any yet and I'm in Wisconsin so that doesn't help either. I think it's a fairly new product too so it might be hard to come by. You could look for a GenY hitch. No air, but similar concept to eliminate the jerkyness. Good luck brother, merry Christmas!

So here is my take on shocker hitches:

From all I have read, they work well, but originated in gooseneck applications where Load Distribution is not needed for obvious reasons.

I would consider one of these if you have a large truck that doesn’t require a LDH if you choose not to use one. Your Tundra requires a LDH at anything over 5k in weight. Have I towed more with a Tundra and not had a LDH hooked up? Yep.

When you have a good LDH and set up properly, your ride is improved.

I personally would go and purchase a LDH over a shocker hitch. On Sunday....good luck. Maybe a member on here has one you can borrow.

@GNX6, ColoradoTJ is our forum guru on hauling. And, if you go ahead and switch your choice to an LDH hitch, I think you'll be able to find one here in SD (unlike CO, most places usually open on Sundays are open today, but many with abbreviated hours), IF you hit it this morning.

    My initial search yielded this:
    IMG_2983.jpg
I also did a search for "buy a LDH hitch in San Diego" and got a bunch of hits for retail places, like Pep Boys, open now. I #HATE Pep Boys, but it gave me the idea you could find a local source today.

Finally, I'd guess, if you're willing to go the LDH route, you could probably rent a hitch at U-Haul.

If you're certain you want a shocker hitch, I don't know about them. Maybe could get one where you could get an LDH, or else, yeah, hope another member answers up. Good luck!

I do have an LDH system for my 25ft Jayco trailer but I have to haul a 6x12 Uhaul trailer which has no LDH and rides like poop. I got a dual axle so it would ride a lit better than a single that will just bounce around like a pogo stick. The shocker seemed perfect for this particular situation.

Ahhhh, I see said the blind man.

The U-haul trailers do ride like lumber wagons.

Totally get why you want one of these hitches, but not sure I would spend 400.00 on this trip though.

I would use it other times as well, but yes, is a big expense.
