With the high demand we are seeing and the lagging issues with production due to early covid shutdowns when do u guys predict that the 2021s will cease to be available for sale? In normal years there would still be some available well into fall and the Christmas season but with a new model year upon us and production issues along with high demand im wondering if they won't be available that long. Thoughts?

My theory is they will be available well into the end of next year as Toyota gets ready to ramp up production of the brand new redesign coming in 2022, which may be released on a delay, meaning it may not be available as early as a typical new year model would be. Usually Toyota has previous year model well into October and even November, but I would expect the 2022 may not be on the showroom floors until January 2022.

Our local dealer told us that there was yet another shut down at the plant. Harder and harder to come by as of todays date. Who knows if that was a ploy to get a sale though. W/e...worked on me, but I also got the price I wanted so..........lol

If the demand is still high...they will just keep making them. On Jan first 2022, they will just stamp them 2022. If they can sell as many as they can make...why would they stop production on that model?

2022 will be a complete redesign, so they will not be able to just "stamp" a new date.

Now that is an idea I like, but I doubt they will maintain two different full size trucks. It's just not Toyota's style.

So they can't continue to build the current model? Who is going to stop them?

The fact that they are going to refit the factory to produce the new model that they have spent tons of money developing. You know, they kind of want that investment to start paying. Unless you think they are going to start a new production facility to build the new models and keep the old one to build the old trucks. Because that makes tons of sense for a business.

Well we will see. It was supposed to be out in 21...now 22...so why not 23? If they are selling the current trucks faster than they can make them....and some people are paying 10,000 over msrp for pros in some places...it seems to me they will continue to make the current model. Maybe the new model will sell even faster and the profit margin will even be better?...but I am confidant that Toyota will make the decision to do what ever they think will be the most profitable. Heck they could make a limited amount of the new model and sell them for 75,000.

Unless they are spooling up another build facility they will have to pick one or the other. I don't see them letting the brand new design age an extra year when they can turn it out now as the latest and greatest. Especially when they are already complained at constantly for being behind the times on tech in the Tundra. Why would they hold it back when the demand will transfer to the new truck?

I believe there were 2020s still being made in June, so they’ll make the 2021 as long as demand is there well into the summer.

Agreed. I think catching up on the extremely high demand will extend the production cycle longer than usual.

This is true, but the news from people more in tune with the industry (Car and Driver for one) is that the 2022 is likely to be available at a later date than usual. They expect it to be around the end of 2021, so I imagine production on the current trucks will end sometime mid next year.

It’s pure speculation on everyone’s part but I’ll throw my idea into the mix. I had originally ordered a Ford in August, and due to Covid, Ford extended production of 2020 trucks into October of this year. Depending on parts supply from subcontractors, Toyota may push production further out into very late 2021. I know that production for manufactures is currently slowed (some more than other) due to outbreaks and material shortages which may push Toyota to extend there production run further than normal in an attempt to try to mitigate some of their losses.

I for one can’t wait for the new 10-second 40mpg 800HP v10 diesel hybrid 3/4 ton Tundra that fits in compact-only parking.

2020 2021 is the same truck. They have been trying to make as many as they can. It’s a stamp that makes it 2020 vs 2021. They will make as many as possible for as long as possible. I wouldn’t expect 2022’s until October 2021. You’ll be able to get 2021’s all through next year and discounted ones come the end of the year.

What I want to know is, if they have to push back the debut of the true 3rd gen Tundra and keep producing the current XK50 generation (2007-current) for 2022, what else will they delete?

The glove box door? “Our manuals are now held in grippy rubber pouches—a glovebox door is no longer needed to keep the manual in the glovebox.”

The rear window? “Double Cab models now join the Crewmax with a permanently rolled-down rear window.”

The radiator? “Our engine oil is now designed to withstand high temps! This delete worked so well for our transmissions, we thought we’d spread the love.”

I am trying so hard to be patient and wait for the 2022 so I can get rid of my Tacoma. It's to damn small inside.

It may depend on when they unveil the 2022 and how people react. If it is say, a brand new V8 and TT V6 as an option, with awesome styling, technology, comfort, etc then you probably see demand for 21's plummet.

On the other hand if the rumors are true and it a TT V6 only, and if the styling is a mixed bag, with a transmission geared for efficiency like the Tacoma, you may see demand ramp up for 21's even higher than it is right now as people rush to snap up the last of the V8s.

The Aisin plant being built in San Antonio for some of the new Tundra's parts wasn't originally planned to be online until September 2021, and that was before COVID struck. I imagine you'll be able to buy a 2021 until at least this time next year
