the RPM's change a bit....I mainly notice this when I first start it and sit there for a few minutes before driving away....
When turning the wheel, the RPMs go up alot, then down......
    Is that normal?
p.s. I forgot to look for it after driving around and then putting it in park....but it probably still happens then too....not sure...

Power steering pump engages which adds load to the serpentine belt system which makes it fluctuates. This happens on al
Last all vehicles unless they have electronic power steering.

There's a pressure sensor that boosts the RPM's. Older cars didn't usually have one. They can sometimes stall if the RPM's are just low enough when you crank the wheel all the way.

Normal. Same thing happens when you turn on your A/C. Putting a load on an idling engine.

It's really fun when it happens while your driving 60mph around a dangerous curve.....turn the wheel...rpm's (and speed) shoot up to 90mph.....
Nah...hasn't happened yet. Yeah, a few minutes after I first posted, I thought about it and said to myself: "power steering..needs power...!! got it!"
But your posts gave me more details....good. I never noticed it with my old truck though......as someone said..older cars didn't.......
