What's the Appeal of Avocado Toast?

My wife tried it one day with leftover avocado as a joke because of all the social media hype and now she's hooked. It's her go-to lunch when avocados are on sale. I tried it and it was ok but not something I'd go out of my way to make and certainly not something I'd spend my monthly mortgage payment to get from a restaurant.

Am I missing something?

 

I like avocado's but rank avocado toast way down there...... a notch above wheatgrass juice.

 

I haven't tried avacado toast but I like avacado and it sounds really good. Always nice too when something that tastes great is really healthy, except the salt, and that could be reduced or omitted.

 

My wife makes hers with tons of garlic, which is never a bad thing.

 

Growing up in Cali, it was something we had often. I do it every now and then now. I like to sprinkle everything bagel seasoning over it.

 

If 1 has garlic…. You all have garlic!

 

I add meat and siracha so it’s a bit more hearty! Thinly sliced deli chicken is my favorite combination.

 

I have no idea why the hipsters like avocado toast so much. Hipsters latch on to the weirdest things. I don't like avocado at all though...

 

Also great for you. Peel the garlic bulb, cut off the pointy top, drizzle with olive oil, wrap in foil and bake at 400 for about 45 minutes, pop out the cloves and mash them up and spread over bread and enjoy. Not sure if roasted garlic like this is used for avacado toast but it should be.

 

Love me some sourdough toast with avocado slices and fried eggs on top.

 

I applied to the hipsters club but they said I had to have enough hair to tie in a bun. Sadly I do not meet this criteria.

 

I only like avacados in guacamole. Otherwise they're bland and have a weird texture.

All I know is our (my wife and I's) grandparents ate bacon, eggs, and drank whole milk while living deep into their 90's and a couple of them making 100+.

 

I was going to make guac today but I might have to try this now. But what will I do with the lime? Don't even suggest putting it in my beer.

 

I’ve done that for breakfast with over easy eggs. Fan-freaking-tastic!

 

It's a similar texture to butter on toast and has that savory buttery taste to it. I like to make an bacon and egg sammy with avocado and salsa.

Avocado is good. I'm not a hipster but I do exercise daily and care about what I eat. =]

 

Large granule salt (kosher salt, or sea salt from a grinder), fresh ground pepper, and garlic are the keys to outta-this-world avocado toast. A little chili oil is good, too.

 

I grind Himalayan sea salt for this exact reason. Adding some sriracha and/or bacon is great too.

 

We learned this from the free Hello Fresh trial we were on for a while.

Speaking of stupid things millennials waste money on...

 

Juice it for the dressing on the mango-avocado salad in your blank bean tostadas.

 

It depends on how you make it. I've had it where it was fantastic, and I've had it where it was just OK.

 

Ripe avocados are yummy with a pinch of salt alone, I guess the appeal is how easy it is to make, especially in a world were young adults get "avocado hand" (google that crap, it's funny AF).

The girlfriend likes it with eggs, I like it with prosciutto, it's good stuff so long as you don't pay to have it made

 

Friggen millennials.

I was hanging out with some people (all millennials) once, one of whom is a total hipster. Downtown Vancouver but dressed like a lumberjack despite never having even held an axe type of hipster. It came up that my freezer is filled with grass fed beef, wild game and fish while my fridge is full of fresh, organic veggies.

He got all impressed and said something along the lines of "Must be nice being rich enough to shop in those types stores." The look on his face was priceless when I went "Stores? What stores? I have a rifle, a fishing rod, a garden and know local farmers and ranchers..."

 

Absolutely vile, right up there with okra , squash, eggplant. Anything else i love....broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, brusell sprouts, spinach....on and on and on.

 

Add bacon and then you have something.

 

I guess millennials don't do Scouts any more?

My wife did cut herself so badly she needed stitches because she turned her head to say something to our daughter while mincing garlic.

 

I was spearing an avacado pit with a knife while holding it in my hand and it slipped and went into my palm .

I may have also been drinking at the time.

 

It's good, adding bacon will make it better.

 

I'm in favor of bacon, eggs (from our own chickens) and whole milk. Hmm... have to see about getting a pork from one of the local hog farmers. I know a couple who own this great BBQ place... As for avocados... Yech.

I remember my best friend's little sister doing that to herself while cutting a bagel. Since Jay died on his 15th birthday, that makes it some 46 years ago... All generations can screw up. Hell, I still do it. (But I don't post the evidence on social media... )
