I know most people believe that it’s best to stick with OEM stuff, but I would rather use different transmission fluid. The World Standard Fluid doesn’t seem to hold up as good. I’ve been researching different fluids and thought about getting a fluid exchange using Amsoil Signature Series Fuel Efficient Fluid. I want a atf that can handle extreme temperatures and flows better in the cold and with less hanging with shifts. When I drive in the morning it tends to hold gears long and hunt for a gear. Is it ok to use Amsoil in place of WS? I’m also open to other fluids that might be good.

Valvoline MaxLife is what I am running in my Lexus GX460 and a lot of the GX folks online recommend. it's been in there probably 2 years now and is just fine.

The amsoil will be just fine. Lots of people run it on this forum. I've ran Schaeffers 204SAT, which is thicker than recommended but worked just fine, especially in the heat of the south. And I switched over to Schaeffers 205A, which is exactly the same as the 204SAT, but thinner in viscosity to meet WS specs.

    I'd run
    Amsoil
    Schaeffers 205A
    HPL

I'm switching over to HPL when it's time for a fluid change.

I switch out the factory stuff on my 2015 at 63k to maxlife, truck shifts and drives just as it did before.
I’ve used it in my last 2 Nissan trucks with no issues.
If you go this route, get it at Walmart, it’s about $18 cheaper a jug than the auto stores

I was at advance auto getting some grease and the guy in front of me got a gallon of maxlife, I thought I heard the total, but we went out at the same time and I asked what it cost, after tax $38. I was like sorry to ruin your day man but walmart is $20 cheaper. He looked devastated lol

If WalMart has what I need I never buy fluids at auto parts stores.

What about mixing? If I switched over to max-life 4 quarts are a time, does it mix well with WS? It could possibly be a couple years before all traces of WS have been purged.

I've mixed it with all my toyota's.

I'm about to do a drain & flush on my 2020.

I’ve been debating about doing another fluid exchange, I had 3 prior fluid exchanges and feel like it should be safe (hopefully)

Thanks. My trans is 100% WS and most of it is new. I let my trans sit for a few days, pulled the plug, and let it sit for another 24 hours. The result was a 7.5qt drain. I then had another 1.5qt flush with my trans cooler install.

What is the advantage of max-life over WS?
    Cost? Durability?

it's WS compliant. so, it's WS too.

    it's available & affordable.

it's red like the others & stinks like the others.

I drained my pan, filled it up, drove 10 miles, repeat. Did that 3 times I believe. That was 3-4 quarts each time.

I believe there are ASTM standards that ensure the different fluids won't react to each other in a negative way. I know for sure there is one for motor oil, not sure specifically for trans fluid.
