What lift is good enough?

    So I've been comparing the bilstein 5100 and the ome 612 for my 12' DC. Using my stock 18" rims and trying to make room for a 285/75r18 tire... Currently have 275/75r18 duratracs.

    Everything I've researched says the 285/75r18 will fit with either lift with the obvious performance benefit in the OME.

    However, do I actually need the Ome? I'm not Baja racing, I'm not climbing rocks in a jeep. I'm driving rough mountain trails and going over bumps and deep ruts on Prairie trails while I'm out hunting. I've done a little damage to my truck doing those things, but those are issues of clearance not shock performance/travel.

    Is the 5100 good enough? What type of offroading or performance needs would warrant paying extra for the Ome 612?

    I’m running ome front coil overs on my 2002 tundra and the bilstein 5100’s on my 2007 tacoma with stock coils. I’ve got the bilsteins on the top perch. The ome lift is nice no doubt, but in my opinion the 5100’s ride just as good. From my experience with both, I wouldn’t spend the extra money.

    I think for your use the OME or even something like 6112/5160 would be better options. The 5100s are basically the stock TRD shocks with option to level up front.

    I have the OME 614 setup which is perfect for all the old mining roads I hit here in CO. The OME 's aren't designed for Baja racing. Well worth the $.

    Take the extra money you’d save going with the bilstein shocks and get you some spc upper control arms.

    Not going to save that much...SPC's now list for $640 and keep in mind the OME 's are specifically tuned for the Tundra unlike the 5100's.

    To get the ome (front and rear) plus the toytec shackle would actually be less money than the 5100(front and rear) plus a shackle plus a UCA.

    What do the OMEs really give me that the 5100 won't? I belive clearance is what in after... hitting a hole in a Prairie trail going a little to fast is about as hard as I'll push the actual shock. I won't be in many situations ever that require any heavy articulation.

    I’m learning, I’m learning, you guys are definitely the experts on current tundras. I’ve got older s**t:D seriously it sounds like you can’t go wrong with any of those options y’all have mentioned. But I guess the 5100’s are kinda on the bottom of the totem poll for current gen tundras. Don’t know if the op looked yet, but you could also consider the toytec eibach lift kit.

    Enough to fit the tire... Ome 612 would get me about a half inch over the 5100 on the top setting.

    Absolutely! A lot of members are running them @ mid setting or 1.9". I have that setup, but I'm running @ top setting with 1" tapered block in rear

    Does the block in the rear affect the ride though? And are those rear shocks made to work with 1" rear blocks?

    Well hell, all the more reason to get the ome lift. That 1/2 inch can make a huge difference when it comes to stuffing tires. If you’ve got the budget, go ahead and get the uppers. Do it once and be done.

    @rons23 I need to measure my wheel wells, but you think I'd still have rake even after raising the front 2"?

    Like @Grey Wolf said, OME with 614s rear Dakar spring pack and greaseable shackles with SPC UCAs. Then again I am kind of biased. The last 4 or 5 lifts that I have had, has been OME. Great on the road, the trail.

    You could have a little bit of rake, more closer to level. You can always add a block, or shackles if need be.
