While chasing the wiring for my Fishstick for the Fisher plow yesterday I noticed a wire coming through the firewall something had chewed the insulation off.
There is a grommet in the firewall the Fishstick cable goes through. Just above that , this is on the driver side, is a single black wire/cable I think had its own light blue plastic grommet going through the wall. The insulation is chewed off for about six inches revealing a rusty piece of cable underneath. Does nnot appear to be copper and feels rigid.
Any ideas what this is for?

Pics would help. Was the truck previously owned? It could be an aftermarket accessory of some sort. It could also be a dealer installed GPS/tracker for anti-theft.

I am the original owner. Its a 2021.
I think that might be it that its the hood latch cable.
So there is no problem if the insulation is chewed off that?

No, its just a solid cable for the hood latch. However, if it has been chewed, i would look at all of your wiring in the engine compartment, especially under the engine cover.

Yes I've been looking over all the wiring very closely becasue of this problem I'm having with the plow these last two weeks. I had noticed a red squirrel under my truck a few times last summer and found some pine cone scraps on the plastic cover on the engine. I took care of that critter. Due to the rust I'm thinking it dates back to that.
I feel lucky he choose that cable out of all the small wiring he could've gotten to.
Will continue to look over the wiring as I work on the f-ing plow trouble.
    Thanks much.

So does it matter if this cable is covered or not? From testing it with helper I'm assuming there is another wire sliding inside this steel casing to control the latch?
Was thinking maybe in summer I'll clean off the rust and wrap it w tape or heat shrink it.

    Tastefully enhanced...
Squirt some lube and tape it up...braided wire LOVES soaking up moisture so if you don't lube it or protect it, it will break at the worse time...for the winter (rest of this one) you're more then likely good as it is.
