My brother in law has this spotting all over his hood, and asked me if I had anything that would fix it. He says he thinks it’s from being parked under a tree all the time, like it’s from sap. I’m not sure. Anyone seen this, and know the best route? I didn’t want to just start buffing on it without a second opinion.

Pressure wash it off, light scrub, if it's from the house cut back on the tree, if it's up from work park somewhere else

if it's raised sap, what about hitting it with some tar or bug remover?

Maybe just try it on a small area

Here's my culprit, Pecan tree, even if I park close to house that sap crap still gets on, and I've cut back on that tree a lot, don't get me wrong it puts out good shade n good crop of pecans, but that sap crap I hate and it's a messy tree

If it's sap stuck on the paint you could try a good wash then hit it with a clay bar.

I'd wash it first, and then use tar and bug remover. Tar and bug remover will be the most effective on sap. Then another good wash and wax.

He says it doesn’t come off when he washes it. They feel bumpy, tried my fingernail, and it didn’t do anything.
I’ll try a clay bar and some iron x and see what happens.

I agree with Adam... I dont think Iron X is going to have much of an affect.
Maybe want to wash it right before to try and soften it up a bit?

It wasnt tree pitch, but I had some luck removing the sticky stuff left behind from the vinyl tail tags with WD40... Clean the truck, then spray the area with WD40, let it sit for a minute or two, then start working at it with a MF cloth.

I have used goo gone in the past and it worked well. But I only had small spotting from a tree at work, so not sure if it would work on larger surfaces or not. Those pictures look worse than what mine did.

I have also heard of people using vinager to get stuff like that off.

What ever product you try I would test it first on a small painted part that is not too visible. I used bug and tar remover to try to get off some sap and it started to take the paint off.

If the paint has been etched by the sap, I would be apprehensive about using vinegar. It is an acid and might damage the paint. I'm sure @SouthBoundSteve will have some input when he has a minute.

I didn’t mean to say the Iron x would do anything to the sap. I’ll just use it since I’m claying anyway.

I’ll probably try a few different things I have already, then try the tar remover.

Take it into a detail shop for the day. They'll remove everything, clean the engine bay and the interior. While they do that, you can head to an auto parts store and buy a cover for the truck. Better yet..quit parking under the treeo_O

I've had to remove huge blobs of sap from a longleaf pine off of a few hoods. Its a 2 person job how I did it anyway, one with a water hose and one with a small wrag and a can of acetone.Dab the wrag with acetone and apply it to the sap and have them spray it off immediately and I do say Immediately or you will not only remove the sap but your clear coat as well.It works really fast so don't lollygagg around when it comes to spraying it off as soon as you notice the sap dissolving. It worked on really big hardened globs of sap so it should be easier to remove what you have since it looks more like a mist of sap covered your truck.Hope this helps, just be glad it's not a long leaf pine you're parked by.

Back in the day, before washing, I used diesel and a rag to remove crap like this from my dove-grey '77 Cougar and it worked great! It would also strip away any wax, so I'd have to re-do that every time, but it left the paint just fine. I've never tried it on modern paints or anything with clear coat, sooooo...I'm just talking of my ass right now and not making any recommendations!

When he touches it what does he note...sticky, hard, smooth? Does he work anywhere near and industrial area?

Has he driven near any road construction or behind any trucks?
