Right now, I've been eyeing my friends 2003 Tundra. It's an Access Cab Limited Pickup 4D 6 1/2 ft. Now, his has some interior things like leather seats and it also has a spray on bed liner, but it does have 200k miles on it. It has some normal wear and tear, but no serious issues. I'm trying to figure out price point, but I'm getting different values from difference places, and I want some other people's opinions on it.

Need pictures, including the frame, to give an honest evaluation.

KBB or NADA values still hold water even in this crazy market. Don't pay more, and hopefully alot less if you have the inside track

As stated above, gen 1 frames and bodies have major corrosion issues, but in good shape the major mechanical stuff is legendary in it's reliability and longevity

If it has been well maintained and frame is in good shape, those numbers mean squat on 1st Gen. If it was mine, maintained well, frame good shape, one would have a hell of a time talking me down from 11/12 K. If I was offering a price, I would start at 8.5/9 K and see if they laugh !

It's in decent shape, and for me at least an older Tundra isn't really worth anything close to 11/12k. They just aren't the most desirable trucks in the world, in terms of looks especially. I know that they are extremely reliable, but I have to factor in how much I would have to spend on gas, and everything like that. If they really are worth 11 grand, I don't think I could get a 1st gen.

I've never bought a Toyota before, or any car for that matter, but I talked to my dad who does know cars, and he thought I could get it for 6 grand or less.

I think they look better than the newer trucks today which are all plastic with soda can body panels that can dent easily.

Ask your friend to let let you drive it for the day if you’re on the fence and welcome to tundras.com

I've already ran in on KBB, and it gives a value about 7000. This Tundra needs a brake job, has a body panel in need of repair, isn't in great condition it's just average, I just don't feel like paying above 6500 is fair. Even that I would consider a stretch.

If it's a typical rusted up new england truck with 4wd then maybe 4-6k depending on everything else. If it needs a timing belt soon thats probably 1k. If it's from the south west with no rust then maybe closer to 10k if really nice.

I did already drive it and I love it, but I can't afford anything above 6500 really. That may just not be enough, but I'm going to try.

Why does region have an impact on price?

I wouldn't say just the region, just the usual rust issues in the north and rust free issues in the south or west.

If I am correct with what you have posted so far(never bought car, Dad helped with price....you are a young man ?) Listening to Dad is a good thing since any 1st Gen will take some maintenance and TLC. You don't want to make a mistake right out of the gate on first purchase....patience in your shopping around.

Terrain as well. Guys in flat, rural states with manual transmissions go 100k+ on factory brakes etc. Some places keep vehicles young, some push them hard just by being there.

Awesome, yes this will be my first car. Where I live it's fairly hilly, but very rural. My dad and I both agree that this Tundra isn't worth more than 6k. I'm taking it to a mechanic in a few days for a full evaluation so I can get a better grip on the condition of this specific one.

18 years old with 200k miles. I wouldn't buy it at all if I had $6,500 to spend. For that money you can get a lot newer (a non Toyota), lower mileage vehicle for your money. If you have plenty of time to shop around, I would recommend taking your time and looking for a good deal on a well maintained vehicle.

I'm looking for a truck, and I came across a Hilux. It's 1992 with 300k miles but rebuilt engine, new distributor cap, serpentine belt, etc. A question I have for that is how hard is it to get part for the Hilux, since it's a Mexican made model. If you have any other suggestions for trucks under 6500 I would love to look at them
