Yeah, I sure will share driving impressions.

Great question. They can do mail-out swaps on the older transmissions but since mine was a 2021 he didn't want to risk something being different. So that's why I am having him rework on the one that actually came out of my truck.

BTW I will add that I have a Diesel BMW X5 that I have tuned to a Stage 3 with full emissions delete. IPT did the valve body on that as well so I do have experience with them already. You want to talk about a ridiculous car, that's the one right there lol. It's a 7 seat SUV that will do 0-60 in 5 seconds.

I'm a little tardy in posting this update, but to my credit I wasn't able to pick my truck up until Monday night night on my way out of town to go camping for a week. So we rolled into the camp site with a crazy overloaded Tacoma and a completely empty Tundra lol. And for those of you who think I might be exaggerating about the Tacoma, I submit the following evidence:

    20210809_163728_resized.jpg

    20210809_163744_resized.jpg

But Gypsy as we may have looked getting there, we had an amazing time.

Let's get back to the Tundra though because now that I'm back home I've been able to put about 300 miles on it since picking it up. I'll basically summarize by saying it is very close to exactly what I had hoped for. Even the trans shop that did the work said it has been a long time since they've been in a truck that shifts this good. It shifts very crisply now compared to before. My only complaint is from 1st to 2nd it went from very slushy (pre-mod) to more firm than I was hoping for. It's not head-snapping firm, but firmer than I was really hoping for given that this truck has to do occasional duty as a family hauler. It is firm enough that if I put the truck in tow/haul I was able to get it to chirp the tires a couple times in manual mode. which is certainly cool, but not really necessary. Complaints aside though it is pretty much exactly what you expect out of a performance-tuned auto trans and feels like it really knows what it's doing now when it changes gears. I also hooked up my trailer for a bit today and hauled it around for 12-13 miles. the 1st/2nd gear change feels perfect with a trailer hooked up and all the other changes are still real nice and snappy too. So overall I am pretty glad I did this and can't wait to see how it is with a charged 5.7 feeding it!

and should be very epic once I have a supercharged 5.7 feeding it.

One quick snapshot of our camping week...we were base-camping at a friend's property outside Silver Falls, OR. The trailer and white dodge in teh background are our neighbors who we have become really good friends with over the 14 years we've been neighbors. This picture was taken at about 6:15 AM as the sun was coming up over the horizon. Silver Sky Metallic is by far my favorite color in sunrise or sunset conditions.

That taco looks hilarious, and glad to hear that valve body works, can you request changing the pressure?

It got plenty of pointers and gawkers on the 2 hour drive there lol.

I've now driven the Tundra about 400 miles since the swap and actually really not minding that 1st-2nd bump at all anymore. It is particularly noticeable under a certain set of specific condition but other than that it is really quite smooth and quick which is what I was looking for. What I also like a LOT is the fact that it downshifts a lot more intuitively now when I'm slowing down. Just that added little bit makes the truck much more enjoyable for someone who is likes performance-oriented cars. It is also true that there is the red-headed part of me that just doesn't like to wait for anything - even a shift. lol

If anyone local to Vancouver, WA wants to come take a spin in it to see the differences I'm happy to facilitate!

I may have to call itp to see if they can take swap, won't be able to let the truck sit idle for more than a week.

If your truck is 2020 or older, they can probably work with that. They weren't willing to ship me an advance exchange because I have a 2021 and at this point they haven't had time yet to confirm there had been no changes.

Yep, running 5.29's with 35" General's. She really picks up and moves. You're welcome anytime! PM me for my cell and we can work it out from there.

Yep, that's exactly where it cuts out. Confirmed by @PNWTundra2021 too, who is running exactly the same gears & tires I am. Sounds like you must be running into the same limit? The answer seems very simple - we just need a supercharger group buy lol

Yea mine kicks in at that speed, I think the ecu is cutting it from transmission output signal.

    Did you do speedo correction?

I have the speedo correction from my 2017 build but haven't put it in yet. GPS shows I'm only off by 1MPH at 70, so it hasn't been a super high priority. What gears/tires are you running?

5.29s and 35s, first time I found out about the speed limit was on the track, thought was a fluke, did it again and confirmed it won't go over 150kmh or Bout 93mph on speedo.

And to confirm, a 2021 right? I keep telling myself I want to test drive a stock one just to see, but I haven't done it yet.

Yes 2021, stock I've gone above 100mph and didn't hit a speed limiter.

Folks mentioned there's a TSB on 2019-2021 ECU, so hopefully HP tuner or something will have access to the editing soon, I cannot wait to tune it, I feel the power with the headers but I really feel like there's lot more.

Oh, I got the IPT valvebody :) just gotta find time to install it.

I've been at 100+ in my 2017 too, 34" tires without gears. No problems at all. I wonder what the gearing throws off. Per my GPS I am only different by 1MPH at freeway speeds.

Unichip is now offering a tune for 2020's, both NA and SC so so hopefully 21's won't be far behind! I'm on the wait list for an SC install at Lithia Toyota. All that's left is for Magnuson to catch up and start shipping them.

You're going to love the valve body mod. It hooks that next gear so good. Very satisfying. :):):)

Re: your headers - did you go long tube, or short? Keep the cats? What muffler setup? I really like the tone with my BA Muffler - the sound is great - but I find myself wishing for just a little bit more from it. I was thinking I'd do the shorter version when I do the SC, but now I'm curious to hear what you're running and what you think of it.

It seems D3 just informed me 2020+ will be available next week for tune, so exciting time!

headers: went with Stainless Works long tube, friend had stuff from them and it sounds bad ass , that and 304 stainless steel helps with north east winter, as of now, it has OEM cats on with custom mid pipes, then did an x-pipe after that blends into factory TRD exhaust, it sounds like a stock AMG V8 cars, very quiet when cruising but roars when step on it, before that I had the aftermarket cats on and just bolt up to stock pipes, it was so loud, like NASCAR loud, louder than my BMWs with straight pipes, and my wife can hear me coming home from miles away.

@TunsofFon The regear was the # 1 best thing I could have done to match up with the 35's. Drives so much better than my 17 did, and that one only had 34's. Where you at in the PNW? I have a trip to Canada scheduled for 11/15. Happy to meet you somewhere off I-5 and let you try it out.

As far as the SC goes, there's a dealer down in Eugene who has me on the wait list to install it for $8,100. I believe I'm 9th in line. Given that after shipping the SC to my door is $7,400, only $700 to install by a Toyota dealership is pretty rocking awesome. I need to pay for it by year end though for tax reasons so if they can't get me in or won't allow me to prepay it, I'll have to buy it outright and do it myself. I'm also seriously considering 1 7/8" headers after reading through @Downytide 's thread on the topic. The headers sound like a major PITA to get in though, even with a lift. My shop building permit expires 12/13 so I have my work cut out for me until then just getting all my finals done. Can't really take time off to build on the truck some more until after that.

Pics of the garage build, for anyone who's interested in keeping up with that too. I paid to have the insulation and drywall done, now it's back to me for painting and finishing. This has been a four-year build where I've done everything myself except the foundation (though I did excavate and run all the ground utilities myself), roof, insulation and drywall. it features a full-rise recessed lift, 11' ceilings, central heat/cool, central vac, and enough space I can back my 20' flatbed in and close the door without decoupling it from my Tundra - all on a city-sized lot.

I’m in Hillsboro. Pretty close actually. Between the valve body work and regear I’m pretty much afraid to try it out, financially speaking. But I may have to take you up on that offer if you’re going to SC soon.

Your garage is nicer than most houses, for headers , just set aside 2 days so you are not rushing, but definitely diy-able!

I also just got a magnuson except mine is used.

lol I was lamenting the other day that I really wanted to be done with this build, for all the same bank account reasons you're bringing back to mind now. I am going to try and call it good after the SC, headers, and @PNWTundra2021 and I have been talking about the new Sony MobileES receiver, https://www.crutchfield.com/S-VSIji...ArTgqGOrva_soeTkE7xO06ynl7iYHWjxoCI3IQAvD_BwE. With my original build I was trying really hard to keep the factory HU for aesthetic and functional reasons, but now that this HU is coming out I'm sold. It really seems to solve all the problems I'm having with the factory HU. I have already pre-ordered one - release date next month.

@Downytide I've seen a few used ones pop up too. How do you plan to tune it though? That seems to be the herculean problem on the 19+'s.
