Wow! That is a lot of weights. Interestingly enough my local tire shop steered me clear of the KO2s for a similar issue. They told me they had done several Tundras and one was so bad it kept tripping up the Traction control system. They thought it was due to imbalance and vibrations. A separate tire shop told me a similar story a few days later. I wonder if they had a bad manufacturing run.

Yeah I’m pretty bummed out about it. It was literally the only tire they carry in stock in the size I wanted. And it is the most expensive tire out of all I was looking at. To be honest,I wasn’t even really looking at this tire because it was so expensive. I should’ve just waited and ordered the ones I was thinking of. But I have to admit they look awesome on my truck. Do you think I have a leg to stand on just because there are so many weights on it? Is that a big enough complaint? I haven’t had a chance to have it on a smooth highway to see if it shimmies or shakes.

Honestly, if you want to get out of them, I wouldn't put any miles on them that you didn't have to. Test or not, you aren't happy with them, and that's going to be your best bet. If they say that's not good enough, then do the highway test and if it shimmies or shakes, go back and don't take no for an answer. Just my $0.02

I would hope that they would take care of you, especially if it causes issues on the highway. I've never had one that had that many weights, so I dont have direct experience. I did have a set of Toyo tires on a different truck that were mis-plys. They caused me problems for years and the tire shop kept giving me the run-around and told me it was driveline or brake issues. I finally sold the truck to a co-worker, he took it to a different tire shop and they found that two of the tires were manufactured incorrectly and impossible to balance. They fought with Toyo and ended up cutting him a great deal on a set of new ones. Too bad for me, but good for him. I would expect that a good tire shop would do the same on a brand new set.

I was never a huge fan of the KO’s my self. To many mixed emotions on them. I’ve been a Michelin guy my self and these are my first set of Coopers (AT3 XLT) and I love them. Only 5000 kms on them so far but they are the best tires ive has so far hands down

While I can't beat the amount of weight placed, I had this lovely experience at Discount tire:

I removed it 5 minutes after leaving the shop!

Hey hey... I rock this same old school logo... I’ve gotten so many random compliments about it. It’s so subtle for its size, but it’s location makes it super noticeable.
One of the cheapest/best mods I’ve done.

I have KO2s on my Tundra without weights and without any issues so far. I also have KO2s on my Tacoma. In my experience, as long as they are regularly rotated, they're a great tire for CO.

My dad bought some tires from Americas Tire and was iffy on weather he liked them or not. Harsh ride. I think he put almost 10k on them before he finally went back to see about getting another set. They gave him different tires at no charge because he didn't like them! Good customer service.

Wish I had your luck. Every set of BFGs I’ve had in the past 20 years on Tacomas, a fullsize Bronco and a Tundra has had balancing issues. But that’s not my main complaint about them. They’re terrible on wet roads, especially as they pile on the miles and the tread wears down. Even so, they’re still some of the toughest tires I’ve had and have always retained air even when punctured by nails. So I’ll give them that.

Did you take the weights off or just opt to not have them installed? Also how do they perform in the rain? Seeing mixed reviews. Believe it or not my stock Michelin’s did great in anything I put them through. Snow, ice and rain.

I had BFG KOs, maybe KO2s, but the rain was my only gripe. They chewed through snow, did well on ice, and handled basic offroad tasks easily. For whatever reason, wet roads were awful. They just had no grip. Once I knew this, and drove accordingly, they were a solid tire.

I did two coats with the black then two more with the gloss. I used one black can total for all four wheels and half of the gloss.

I didn't have weights installed and wasn't given the option on either truck. I took off the stock Bridgestone tires for the KO2s when I bought the Tundra because winter was coming. I considered suggestions from this forum, but went back to the KO2s for the Tundra because I had them on the Tacoma. After a few years with them on that truck, I didn't want to be wrong about tires.

I live in Boulder and it will often rain (and now hail) in the afternoons during the summer. It also snows a lot. We drive to the mountains most weekends to ski and snowboard during the winter. For me, the KO2s have performed well in all conditions, are quiet, and look cool. Downside is they will wear quickly and need to be rotated regularly.

Does anyone know if the RCI engine and transmission skids will interfere with the front and rear sway bars?

No interference with the front sway bars that I've heard or noticed. I have the factory front sway with the RCI skid on mine. The rear sway bar is nowhere close to the engine or transmission skids.

Looks awesome! I’m going to be painting mine sometime next week. I have to take my wheels of my truck to paint the backside too.
