Next one will almost assuredly happen +/- 10 days from July 4th. Sometimes the southeast dealers run them when other national dealers aren't. If you're not in Alabama, bookmark THIS DEALER, they're typically no-tax, and ship free over $75, and when combined with the 25% off sale, I know one member who got a pair of new LCAs delivered to TN for like $450 out the door. Just know, during those sales events, the final discount doesn't show until you hit the last checkout page, and the numbers can be confusing until you look at them for a minute.

Also they won't cover shipping over $200. Which is crazy that their shipping supposedly costs so much. I ended up owing them money for shipping on LBJs, bolts, inner and outer tie rods, and bedside decals.

Slight change in delivery here: They won't cover shipping cost that exceeds $200. If the total shipping is $218, you're on the hook for $18. If the total shipping is $450, you're on the hook for $250.

I've only seen one person on here - and I think it was you? - who managed to order enough hardware that the shipping exceeded $200. It's never happened to anyone on here within the contiguous 48 states who solely ordered LCAs.

I didn’t do the math but I got hit with shipping for control arms.

I guess I should have ordered one at a time.

Well, that’s that I suppose. The old belt didnt look too bad, maybe a bit dry. Something was definitely off though because there was some rubber grunge buildup around the idlers(?) under the cover, so it was definitely time after 90k and 7 years.

Unfortunately my dub ass forgot to check whether the new 5VZ rad hoses were for a 4Runner/Taco or Tundra specific, so uh that’ll have to wait. At least I had a chance to put them back on the right way around this time so they aren’t smushed on the fan cover.

It can help to check different dealers because they will charge wildly different shipping rates I've found. I've been using a dealer about 2 hours away from me because they ship quickly for in-stock parts.

I'm gonna go back and look at your receipt.
I confirm: You did NOT pay shipping. Here's your receipt from Serra, I pulled from your purchase post, and you can clearly see the shipping is comp'd in green - you paid $212/ea, and they waived the ~$36 shipping.

I dunno why other people are having issues with this - there's zero reason why a pair of arms should exceed $250 in shipping costs to anywhere in the continental USA. I'd love to see other folks' receipts claiming Serra charged them shipping without comp'ing it as seen here.

Like I said, I could have played games and split stuff up. Seems stupid

you said “I've only seen one person on here - and I think it was you? - who managed to order enough hardware that the shipping exceeded $200.” and it’s not that hard.

Care to show an itemized, so we can see what else is on there? It was easily implied in your previous post that you only ordered LCAs. But you're showing a $1,500 subtotal, which is almost 3x what LCAs typically cost during deals, shipped.

Sometimes stupid shit, like brake lines, cost silly amount on shipping because the boxes are absurdly long. And I'm wondering if there's a similar explanation.

Did you contact Serra and ask them why they didn't apply the free shipping included in the promo?

And FWIW, it shows they knocked off $465 from the total for shipping and discount. It's normal for them to show shipping, just like on FGV's, and apply the discount elsewhere.

Very possible, it’s confusing as hell to add the shipping to the total, back out 25% of the non shipping, and all the shipping, and add in a line for shipping. Also I don’t have anything that shows what the discount was by item.

I’ve only shopped Honda for many years, which is a lot easier. Toyota parts website is unique.

Edit, I didn’t contact them. 25% off is so cheap I feel like I’m stealing from them with free shipping. I’m used to rockauto and parts geek, which charge reasonable shipping prices. And in this case they sent me some stuff wrong so the shipped replacements and paid for the return that I dropped off.

Thanks for showing where I’m wrong. I feel better if I didn’t pay shipping. Next time I’ll try for $15 more in freight to see what happens.

All the dealers participating in the online parts network seem to itemize it this way. They combine the free shipping discount with the 25% savings promo into one big discount. By displaying the shipping charge below the subtotal, it appears you are paying shipping even though they have previously removed the shipping charge above. It's confusing but I called to confirm with the dealer that shipping was indeed free. If you do the math it will add up correctly. My receipt above shows the same accounting.

It's what they've done on prior orders for me. If you look at the view in the cart (which is where FGV's screenshot is from) versus looking at it in the confirmation email, it makes more sense, or at least it used to.

Here is an itemized sample of an email from my previous Serra order. I can look up the screenshots I took on this of this when/if I have a sec today. But I assure you, though it shows S&H, the discount is bundled into the total. And I know this with basic math, using this Serra order as an example.

The parts total for those five items is $164.77 (as noted in Subtotal), multiply that times .25 for the 25% discount, we get $41.19. The discount they offered is $56.75. Subtract that $41.19 parts discount from the full discount, and we have -$15.56, which is the amount shown for shipping.

Yes, it looks stupid the way their system calculates it, but if you see it at the checkout page, and in the checkout order window confirmation, it's much more clear.

Without seeing your itemized, I can't say definitively, "Yes, they didn't charge you shipping". But ... math tells me they didn't charge you shipping because if I subtract your order's shipping from the discount ($476.79 - 185.68 = 291.01), and we divide the remainder of 291.01 from the Subtotal $1455.06, we get 0.20 which is 20%, and that was the advertised discount for the July 4th sale ...

Hell, I ordered all this shit from Fred Anderson and didn't get charged shipping. I spend as much time verifying parts as I do shopping prices anymore. Downside is they seem to take a little while to ship, assuming it has to do with some parts not being in stock right there on hand so I've gotten in the habit of asking.

    I have a theory.
They're charging the shipping from various dealership warehouses to the dealership where we place the order. Then charging the shipping of all the items together from that one central dealership where the order was placed, to the customer. That's the only way it can possibly make sense that the shipping can be so insane for some and nothing for others. Depends heavily on where each item ships from initially, plus the final shipping of everything to the buyer, from the dealer.

I’ve been wanting to figure out a solution for a better fitting cup holder. I keep meaning to stop at Homo Depo to buy some rubber Ferncos to use as cup holder spacers, but i keep forgetting to swing in there. I know that a 32oz Nalgene bottle fits perfectly in the tundra’s cup holder, so i decided to just go after another nalgene.

Last week went over to the Nalgene website and searched under their clearance sale. Turned out they had a super good deal on their “Ugly Sweater Bottles”. They were funny that i wanted one. Then i looked at the price and they were only $8.95 each!…so i bought five of them! Four to go in my truck, and a fifth one i’ll give to one of my friends. I just perused the nalgene website right now and those particular bottles are no longer on clearance, but at a full price of $18.95! Now I wonder if i was the person who ruined that clearance sale for everyone else?

    https://nalgene.com/product/32oz-wide-mouth-ugly-sweater-bottle/

I’m going to just pretend that the truck is an early 1st gen tundra 4x4 single cab with short bed conversion that has been painted TRD red.
    IMG_4510.jpg IMG_4509.jpg

EDIT: i just realized how appropriate the “ugly sweater” nalgene bottle are for my truck…since i frequently haul a ton of Fir trees in the bed. Normally all my disposable 1 liter water bottles are rolling around in the back of the back portion of the access cab.

    Yeah, not sure on yours.

    Subtotal: 1443.10
    Discount: -380.42
    Before shipping: 1062.68
    Shipping: 42.46
    Total: 1105.14

    25% of 1443.10 = 360.77
    380.42 - 360.77 = 19.65
So it looks like you paid shy of 23$ for shipping with those numbers. Either that or (mathing a little here) you only got ~23.5% discount.

Nope, Toyota has distribution warehouses that supply the dealerships. The dealerships are all independently owned, large dealerships networks might stockpile parts that they use frequently, but anything they don't have in stock they're ordering from Toyota. If Toyota doesn't have it at the local distribution warehouse, it might take longer, and if they don't have the part in the country and it's coming by ship from Asia, you might be waiting for a while. But the dealerships order so much from Toyota that the shipping for your $1500 in parts that are included in a much larger freight delivery to the dealership are going to be pretty insignificant.

The main reason they have that $200 limit on free shipping is because they don't want to have to eat the cost of shipping large bulky items to to customers, especially when they're not expensive items.

Here's an example. I can go on Fred Anderson Toyota's site, select 4 TRD wheels on sale for about $1K after $457 off. The shipping is $362, expecting the dealership to cover $362 in shipping fees on a $1K order that's already 30% off would mean that they're losing money if MSRP is 100% markup over cost. Next I added a $175 front bumper cover, don't even know what Toyota it goes on, doesn't matter. My shipping just shot up to $680.69 before the $200 off. Shipping costs more than the bumper because of the size. If the dealership was to cover the cost of shipping on that bumper when they ship it across the country to me, they'd be giving it away at a huge loss, but when Toyota ships it to the dealership, it's just one more bulky item in the back of a freight truck. This is why when buying large or heavy parts, it's usually cheaper to order them from a local dealer that participates in the sales and you can pick the items up in person.

None of my shit was large or bulky. It did take a long time to ship. I'm convinced they were piecing it together from separate warehouses, perhaps Japan even. But when they finally shipped to me from the dealership, it was all contained in one box. How big and heavy do you ask was this box? I'd estimate less than 50lbs and 3'x2'x6". The box fit under my desk for several months.

When one of these Toyota sales happens, the dealerships are getting a huge number of orders. If 20 of us from this forum all order the same pairs of LCAs from one dealership, we're going to wipe out their inventory and probably clear out the local distribution warehouse too. If Toyota has more in their distribution network, that haven't already been claimed by local dealerships, they'll get transferred over either directly to the dealership or more likely through the distribution network and then to the dealership. If there's none in the country, then it's a longer wait.

Because every single item you ordered has a shipping fee associated with the item, and that's purely on the dealership. They're doing their shipping as a predetermined set rate per item, and the total shipping is the sum of those shipping fees. Could they do more realistic shipping fees based on the total weight of the order? Sure. Are they going to make their parts guys spend the next 6 months updating their inventory to do that? Nope. Can you avoid it next time by splitting it into two separate orders? Hell yeah!

I feel ya, the place where I order all of my OEM bolts for other stuff doesn't give free shipping until you get over $149, and I don't know how many times I've paid $20+ in shipping for a handful of nuts and bolts.

So, I left my truck after hours last night so they could install the new tires today (265/65/17) and had my wife drop off the keys to them this morning. She's not comfortable driving bigger trucks so I just did it this way.

She called me with the discount tire rep there and he gave me a deal to upgrade to 265/70/17 for an extra $95.00 total on the whole set and could get the new tires in by 3pm today. I gave him the go ahead to order those instead. :D The price to upgrade online at the time was around $40.00 per tire to upgrade so this is $65.00 cheaper than it was originally.

Kudos to the discount tire rep on the care to even suggest and offer it. I'm sure he gets some commission on the upgrade either way, but it's still nice to have that kind of care from a rep to go a little extra when he didn't have to.
