@Jack McCarthy I checked this morning and found that the block mounted to the frame is indeed brass. I have no idea about keeping the brake pedal depressed.

If a brake line bursts, wouldn't the anti-lock brakes redirect enough fluid so you could get it stopped?

No anti-lock present. Makes it much simpler.

Performed a power steering flush today using @RustyShackle323 method. Worked like a champ! Sorry, didn't have pics in me today. Old stuff looked like a light cola.....cherry syrup now.

Power steering return hose was reasonably crunchy after 275k miles - pump to reservoir section.

Next up, transmission drain and fill.

Went crazy today coating the exposed rusty sections of frame and underside of the bed to prevent anything beyond the current surface rust. Also sprayed a can into both boxed frame rails since that’s the area I have the most problems covering internally.

I think I huffed a little of that mist. Probably should wear a mask next time.

Pulled the single axle and picked up then delivered a new bed to a friend's house. This was the first time anyone sat in the backseat. My wife rode back there while my friend sat up front with me. :hattip:

Dangit! My super cool vintage-looking Toyota keychain for the Tundra broke!

Now I must find a new cool looking keychain as a replacement.

Am I crazy or? My water pump clearly has 6 bolts and 2 studs with nuts. I have watched at least 2 videos where they said remove the 5 bolts and 2 nuts with studs. My Aisin timing belt, water pump kit came with 5 new bolts. The 6 bolts I removed are all the same and the same as the 5 new bolts in the kit. The old and new water pump match up perfectly. I put the 6 old bolts in the same holes of the new pump as I removed them from the old pump. I know I should have probably finished this project today but I had an interruption and will get back to it tomorrow. I plan to just pick one of the old bolts and reuse it. <edit> looking at the FSM I see where it says 'nut" I have a bolt. So the mechanic at the dealership that did this job 05/06/2015 must have replaced a stud and nut with a bolt.

Here is the bolt in a photo I took before taking the water pump off. The question is do I or should I care?

That stud makes the gasket alignment easier. Just slip it in and install the water pump. That said... as long as it seals. Job done...
Nice attention to details... This illustrates why I do my own mechanic work.

You should be able to buy that brake line section from toyota pre-bent but depending on routing it may be easier to re-flare and add in a small section.

In regards to bench bleeding, remember your truck is a bench, with a perfectly shaped vice to hold down your master. You just unhook your lines and bleed it like you would on a bench.

When you unhook the line though, it's gonna start dripping and it won't stop till you're done. Keep the reservoir topped off during this and you should be good.

Yesterday I took my 2002 out on the road to run a couple service calls an hour northeast of me and earned myself a couple of paychecks, and I topped off the tank with some Shell gasoline before parking it. I plan to run one last service call more than an hour south of me on Wednesday, and then it will sit for at least a month while I recover from back surgery.

Don't like pinching vehicle soft hoses to stop flow. Usually cap the line at the disconnection point(s) with a plastic/rubber cap to at least minimize draining (like when swapping calipers or cylinders). But if master drains then have used a bench bleed nipple and tube kit to bleed it without removing from vehicle. When doing major replacements (like replacement of all soft lines), have removed the hard lines at the master and installed the bleed nipples on the master with the temporary short return hoses pinched to keep it from draining. Once the new parts have been installed can reconnect the main hard lines to the master and bleed the system.

Any idea what sort of cap I need?

I’ve at least read up that the pedal should be depressed to isolate the rest of the master cylinder from the line being partially drained when replacing a section. May need to use propane heat, but for now I’ll just soak it with penetrant daily.

Any idea who makes a decent bench bleed kit for the master cylinder if necessary?

I collect a variety of caps from new parts usually. Some come from the master/brake line themselves. Have even wound a rubber band around some plastic (like from a zip lock bag) to make a cap...

This is also what I would recommend for someone that isn't doing this on a super regular basis. It's the one I've used a few times. This kit will be $20+ at a parts store though

I think I’m going to take off the 2nd week of December so I can tackle this in the sh!tty weather and not worry about traveling until the 5th of January. Already stocked up on water, juice, fish and canned goods just in case I’m stranded for a bit.

Was hoping to wait until the 3rd week to take off but I guess I’ll have to burn my carryover PTO so I don’t run the risk of rear ending someone or hitting a tree/jersey barrier.

Figure I’ll just get the 6-8” inch section to replace and the rubber brake line in case the heat destroys the original. I should be able to return it if I don’t use it.

Tomorrow I get the umbrella insurance coverage just in case.

Not a merry Christmas for me. :(
