I looked at a lot of videos of similar set ups. I want to be able to move a gate into place so my needs ruled out the hitch style crane- although I like the fact they are transferring the load into ground and not just the vehicle.

With the bed cranes, most people end up drilling holes through the bed and making a frame that ties into the truck's frame. On the Tundra, the T55 bolts go thru the bed and into the frame so I used those bolts to tie my crane base to the frame. I did not see any other truck with this coincidental feature.

You can see from this photo the 4 bolt locations. Im planning in doing a more detailed write up once Ive had a chance to dial it in.

Simple things ... but riddance of an annoying issue with door not staying open ... by swapping in a new door check from the recent sale. Haven't found these aftermarket but did find correct color handle bezel aftermarket (a pair actually with handles for <$11) on ebay to replace the one that broke taking the door card off.

My back doors won't stay open and I'd like to fix that someday.....

Speaking of bed cranes.....one mounted to a dump trailer might make sense..... :monocle:

We'll probably put a grapple on the mini tractor / loader and use that....of course that means we'd have to haul it down separately. Maybe I do need another Tundra.....

Who’s selling it on eBay for future reference? That is a good color match.

I got under the truck today. Wire brushed the rust. Sprayed a lot of fluid film. Plan to spray more soon. Greased every zerk on the driveline. I saw something I think is odd I’d like to share for the group to comment on. There is a shinny area on my drive shaft. How? Why?

Because your axle moves up and down when riding, your driveshaft has to both extend and compress. It’s basic trigonometry.

Speaking of greasing the drive shaft....what grease to use and how many pumps on each grease plug?

Does one do this then spin the shaft or grease then drive it around a bit?

You keep pumping grease until it spits out the seals of the u-joint. Usually just a few pumps unless it’s the slip yoke. That takes something like 10-12 pumps. Type of grease is in the owners manual. It’s usually moly grease unless it’s a constantly spinning u-joint, then it’ll take regular NGLI-2 grease per the manual.

Not really. You need to cross reference what’s in the manual with a diagram in the FSM. That’s unless the newer owner’s manual has more info. Typically they only grow in size due to the infotainment system write up.

Exactly, and is precisely why it's called a "slip" yoke. Is slips in and out as he rear axle moves up and down. If it didn't shit would break.

Pulled the pin this morning, and buttoned up.
Been a lot of baby steps to get me comfortable with attempting this job.
Other than my unknown with possible broken fasteners it wasn't that bad.
It had been done once before, wasn't an Aisin. Belt was ok, bearings on tensioner were on their last leg, Idler not far behind
Internal cooling passages were clean as a whistle.
I'll wait to celebrate until after I start it up tomorrow and burp her out
