Okay boys and girls I have a question.
I was going over my truck tonight and I noticed these raised emblems on the rear tail lights and on the door frames.
    What the heck are these?

Further research has determined that only Super White trucks are fast enough to require this additional level of stability.
The fins are available for the other, slower colors, to help alleviate the sense of inferiority common to the drivers of those trucks

There WAS a time when Chevy knew how to REALLY make efficient fins!

I dont remember where I watched or had read somewhere, that auto makers would do this to stop wind noise or whistling.

Yep, if you are familiar with the air thumping that occurs when you open just the front windows, it’s supposedly a type of turbulence that the fins can reduce.
    I like my interpretation better!

I believe the ones on the mirror are to help stop the swirl of water the comes off the windshield onto the side windows right about that height, like happens on my 2nd gen.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
    I found it!

See attached page middle of the list of items from the 2017 Tundra brochure. “ Tail Lights & Stop Lights Dual Vortex Generators “. Those fins built in to the tail lights. Not sure why it’s an actual feature? Sounds more like a space craft feature. Lol

They help me get my killer gas mileage. Wonder if they sell more of these in the performance section at Pep Boys. Double-sided sticky tape and plaster these things all over the place. Maybe get some fake chrome fender engine compartment vents too.

They are there so that the Toyota engineers and designers could read forums about the truck they built to see if we, the buyers, are paying attention to the trucks looks.

I remember when the new Tacomas were released, and I thought I wanted one, there was a YouTube marketing video and those fins were a huge deal. I swear it seemed like the video was all about those damn fins.

I saw a documentary with toyota engineers. They were doing the wind tunnel thing and there was kind of small drag right there. This other engineer had a piece of plastic or something and taped it there and other spots. They showed how whatever they were trying to get rid of was gone. It was a few years ago before I bought the Tacoma. It had them as well.
