Only pros, it gives you about an inch I believe of extra clearance for when you put on bigger tires. It doesn’t affect structural integrity of the frame.

Pro- no more rubbing. I don’t understand why people are against it. The plates are like $20 and 3/16” or 1/4” steel. Once it’s done paint them black and no rust issues.

    Cons- :notsure:

@Henry2019 it was done by 88Rotors off-road in CA, they have a lot of videos on YouTube about it. They do great work.

How much did they charge for the chop?

There was a guy on here that said he tried to trade his truck in and the dealership noticed it and low balled him or wouldn’t take it. I don’t think he had the plates though, or they did a crappy job at welding it. I’d guess most wouldn’t notice. That’d be the only con. And the $$ you could spend on other mods if Toyota hadn’t bulged the body mount.

There are some engineering cons if in an accident. Mainly frontal collision and wheel deflection.

Now I don’t have any video or proof of this possibility, but an mechanical engineer in the business warned me about it. I no longer do these chops for members.

I’d say the con is you are cutting away part of your truck. They’re definitely not for everyone.
Another con is if you’re starting to modify your vehicle so much to fit 35’s or larger tires there is a whole group of trade offs/cons associated indirectly with modifying your vehicle this far but not directly related to the chop.

Very little material is being removed from the cab mount area. I myself will not be getting a chop done although I haven't seen any reported issues with the chop in a accident.

God forbid but my only fear is that if i ever get into a crash, the wheel wells would be at jeopardy.

I would bet your safety is much more compromised from the leveling kit and tires and wheels you've installed than removing minimal material at the very tip of the body mount outrigger. Don't over think it.

    Hello

I have done a BMC for my tundra which is on a 2.5 lift kit and 35 tires , after the bmc every time a hit a hard pot hole a strong squeak noise can be heard

I will post a pic of the mount both sides

I am afraid these chops are bad and need to be redone

The biggest con would be if there’s another frame recall They can deny you For modifying the frame.

A coworker’s Tacoma was part of the most recent frame recall and he did something similar with a lift which was bold on but he did a body mount modification to fit larger tires and Toyota wanted pictures for the record. They needed the pictures in certain angles to document The rusted through frame and the dealer said they were going to try to submit them so it didn’t show the frame modification and luckily it worked out for him but that’s the risk you run down the road if there’s a safety recall.
It could be denied which all said and done my coworkers frame replacement was around 15k. And from what I saw underneath my truck before I fluid filmed it, the coating on the frame hasn’t changed From the first gen. It seems to be a worldwide problem with their coating on their frames because most of the body on frame trucks in Africa and Australia have similar rusting issues but not as severe as our trucks above the rust belt

I body mount chopped my Tacoma myself . Welded it and painted it to match. They sold it as certified when I traded it. I think if it looks professional no one will notice or care.

yours could be squeaking because they heated up melted the body mount rubber.

Also I have 35” 3” lift extended travel Kings SPC uppers and it rubbed the front bumper not the cab mount. It barely rubbed the big blocky factory mud flap. Are you doing 37” tires or huge offsets ?

My local dealership sells brand new Tundras with lifts, 35s and BMCs. They warranty them as new and even market them as “Special Edition”. I bet money they don’t mention the modification to buyers. I looked at one the last time I was there and they look factory. Had I not known what to look for I would never know the frame was modified. That being said I will probably never chop my truck.
