This past week was a challenging one.

    Wednesday morning-

We got lazy and didn't close the driveway gate since I was home sleeping and Kilo was inside. That won't happen again. This year I have had three different vehicles drive up my 200' driveway and "act" like they were turning around once they found out people were home.
A truck came up my driveway, parked, and checked if my front door was locked. Normally at night, I lock the deadbolt and door handle lock. When I am sleeping on days, I keep the door handle lock open (it's very loud and alerts me, or my new dog). Kilo went nuts about 1030 am and went to the front door after pouncing on me. They obviously heard and seen him through the side glass.7743045-4.jpg
Unfortunately I didn't see his face, but just his back side and the truck. I stepped back in my hallway to keep three points of visibility (front door, back door, garage entry door) just in case there were others coming around. I heard the truck door close and start backing down the driveway. I didn't sleep well the rest of the day for obvious reasons.
New measures have been put in place to capture images of people attempting to drive up my driveway. Now they will have to cut locks.
Today I talked with a sheriff deputy and took my statement.

Thursday- My Father-in-Law passed away. He had Leukemia, but it was something you died with, not from (not sure what type it was, but most likely from the Vietnam war since he did three tours over here). Sepsis got him, and he was taken quickly after the decision was made to take him off meds and just put him on morphine to make him comfortable. He was 73 years old and married for 49 years. They were always talking about their 50th wedding anniversary. This has been very difficult on my whole family.

Saturday- My Mother-in-Law's best friend passed away. He was very close with our family and a hell of a man. They had been friends since elementary school in Idaho. Timing just couldn't be worse for her. Two of her best friends my MIL had gone in just a few days.

My family are big time animal people. We especially love our dogs. So to put a little icing on the cake, one of the family members had to put down a family pet (dog) that was having unexplained seizures.

I'm really hoping this week starts and finishes well.

Dang, hate to hear how this past week went. Although it is a Monday, it's the start of the week, and as in any day we start new. Hoping you and the family are able to take comfort in knowing loved ones are not suffering and are in a better place. Remember the good memories and make new ones knowing they are with you in spirit.

I’m sorry Chris. Hopefully things will look up soon.

I live in the city and have never had anyone come and try my door. It must be a country thing that makes you a target because it’s so far away from anything else. Strange how that works. You would think you’re safer with less people around, but it seems to make you a target instead.

I’m not going to lie, the adrenaline was flowing. I’ve tried to run these scenarios way in advance, and that actually helped. In my mind, I thought “well shit, this is going to happen”...

I was so relieved to hear/see the truck leave. That would have been a really bad day had someone came into the home, for everyone involved.

Selector switch went back to safe, optics off.

I can’t say my family will ever been without a large breed dog again. The advantages outweigh the hardships at times.

    I'm sorry Chris.

I have been slacking on here a lot lately, I'm glad I didn't miss this post. I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully it only gets better from here for a while.

As for the POS knocking on the front, good call holding an area and watching the back too. The back door is usually the second knob for them to try before a window is broke if there is no answer. Once inside it's fight or flight on their end if someone is unexpectedly home.

I knew you would have the hardware at the ready.
