This week I traveled to NAL Mexico (North American Lighting) in San Luis Potosi, Mexico for work. For those who don't know, NAL Mexico is where our Tundras headlights and taillights are made. They also make the Tacoma lights along with some other manufactures like Honda and Mazda lights. I have to say I was a little nervous about traveling to the middle of Mexico but the trip turned out alright. Except for a stomach bug that I have brought home with me from which I believe I got from eating a bowl of soup at the lunch in the factory. I was very careful about only drinking bottled water but never even thought not to eat the soup. Been 4 days with an upset stomach. Hopefully it is gone by Tuesday as I have another trip to Barcelona, Spain booked.

Wish I could have gotten some pics of the manufacturing part but was not allowed.

And yes, I tried to get the hookup on a set of headlights right off the assembly line but no dice.

What was the soup? Never had issue with food when I would cross over, but I was nervous when I took Tundra and parked it in a gated restaurant, it got all kinds of looks and when I left I stood and waited and watched, some guys were making calls, anyways I wonder if lights are sold cheaper there

Not sure what is was called but it was reddish in color and had what looked like cut up green beans in it. I'm assuming it was the soup because the guy I was with didn't eat the soup and is completely fine. We ate all the same foods. Im thinking maybe when they cooked it, they didn't bring it to a boil.

Best bowl of soup I have ever had was in a small town between Iguala and Taxco Mexico. Cant even start to pronounce it, have no idea what was in that bowl of soup but damn was it amazing, add to the black beans and best damn tortillas I have ever had, fresh lime and salsa...damn that was a meal...

I have been fortunate to never get the old brown apple splatters from Mexico.

Glad you had a good trip otherwise.

Bro, I’d much rather buy a 1-2k beater and bring it down there than risk my tundra being boosted!

Seriously, there is a fancy restaurant that has gated parking with security (armed), paid the guy $5, we walked away out to the sidewalk, I see guy pulling his phone making a call and looking at Tundra, and I was like awwww shit!!!

Tundra boosted, hell, the callers were probably trying to line up a "snatch and grab" with ransom for the "richo Norte Americano". @ARamirez73 has no idea what he missed. :D

I've crossed the border twice. Both times I felt intimidated. No way would I ever go to Mexico again.

Oh yeah, nothing let’s you know you’re alive like a good old fashioned Central American snatch and grab more likely ending in torture and/or death by the hands of a budding cartel!

Last year I had to go to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Both Brazil and Mexico were completely different worlds from the US and not sure which one I liked less. Pretty even as far as crappiness. I will have to go back to both places later this year unfortunately.

We have a plant in Reynosa, they asked me to go a couple of times, I refused. Sent them instructions on what they need to do and was done with it. Fire me, give me my severance and I'll open up computer shop again.
Even our man in TJ refuses to go to Reynosa.

No. They only make for Toyota and ship directly to the San Antonio plant and distribution warehouses for dealerships.

In El Paso, it was better to just walk across the international bridge. Cheap cerveza, a night of innocent fun, the worst thing was paying the duties on the bottles of cheap Jose Cuervo and Kahlua you brought back. That was a couple of decades ago...you couldn't drag me to Mexico now.
