Hahahaha! Just playin' Mike. That hike looks like a great time. And good you had a big group to share it and watch out for each other. Good stretching and growing!

Actually have never camped inside the national park, always primitive camping. We have a few regular spots we go to to camp, but this time we had a small group and camped at a mine which was fun!
    IMG_6623.jpg
    That was Saturday night.

Friday night we camped at one of our usually spots

I've done the park before. It's nice to have some of the amenities. Never primitived it at Joshua tree, I might have to try it out. Reservations are getting harder and harder to come by

I look forward to driving through the park for those amenities! Haha.

There's a ton of stops off Gold Crown Rd to camp on out in the BLM land just outside the park. Then you can take Gold Crown to Old Dale which will take you right into the park. It's a fun drive!
My profile picture is actually from Berdoo canyon just outside the park. That trail leads you to Geology Tour Rd and into the park.

Can anyone recommend a good suspension shop in San Diego to put my icon coils, UCA rear shocks and shackles on my Tundra. I called TE motorsports in Escondido and they want 969$ for the labor and alignment.

Go to Jason (aka "Speed Freak") in Escondido. He does a ton of work out of his garage for SoCal people. You'll have to get in touch with him on Tacoma World in the San Diego BS thread.

Mike you guys have some cool pictures out in the trails. I wish I would have explored more then the bars in Pb when I was there. I have been to superstition but never any high speed runs. I have no idea how we got there but while there my buddy blew up his rail so we took the bikes back to where we were parked and I grabbed my F250 to go tow him out. Poor dude was there for hours while we made that trip. It was well over 100 and he was in a wife beater. We lift him with a bag of Doritos, some beer and a gallon of water. By the time we got back he was fried and everything was gone. Then he had to steer his rail behind my truck all the way out. I wish I could find those pictures.

Oh man! That'd be rough to be stuck out in that heat for hours. I'd dig a hole under my truck and hang in the shade haha. Good on you guys for helping him out

Take the truck on a road trip! If you want to plan something in advance, avoid June-September (too hot)

Good morning everyone! Haven't been on much cause my son picked up a new toy and I've been messing with it all the time. So fun and easy to work on. Hope to make it to Glamis next season. IMG_1942.jpgIMG_1943.jpg IMG_1949.jpg

Man, this must have sucked! I'm glad your friend got out okay. My family teased me for being "overprepared" last time we went out (with Mike and new Tundras.com buddies), but I don't want to get caught in a dangerous circumstance that I can't get myself out of. I grew up in several rural, inhospitable places, and we were poor and drove old high-mileage vehicles-- I've gotten through many situations by luck or God's grace, but definitely do all I can now to ensure my own best chances for survival. That said, a lot of the fun in such out-of-the-way adventures is the change of environment and taking some risks.

When you gonna know your SD vacation dates? :boink:

Glamis will be fun! You gonna do a build thread in that cool project you're doing?

I wish I could leave right now. We were thinking during Memorial Day weekend but we have a couple things that have to get done first. I think we should know maybe sometime in mid March.

He is a Mcgyver for sure. On that same trip I needed to pull my paddle off my dirt bike and put on the dirt tire. He had a generator, welder and a grinder. We found some scrap steel in his truck and he cut me out a wrench from the steel then welded it to another piece to make a wrench so I could pull my axle nut off.

Yea he did my truck yesterday. I brought him everting and did the installing faster then most Motorsport shops quoted me. Only took him 5 hours for icon stage 1 coils, icon UCA, rear shocks and shackles, and diff drop.

Tag motorsports quoted me 4 hours for only the UCA.

Hey, all! Anybody up for a local easy/ barely- into- moderate off-road trip on Sunday 2/25/18??

I'm looking most closely at 2 possibilities:

    A) Palomar Divide Road
which takes off the 79 about 6.5 miles from Warner Springs (except I'm still looking for information on whether this has been gated off, because I haven't found recent trip posts). Anyone know?

This'd be closer to the meet/ start location than our Anna-Borrego meet up, for both Riverside and SD residents, and would take us up a mountain with views in all directions. (Mountains, not desert.)

    B) Bee Canyon to Pine Cove Road would have us meet near Hemet (closer for Riverside residents, a little farther from SD but an easy freeway drive up the 15), and end in Idyllwild, CA.

Benefits would be that anyone motivated to get there early, could get in some pew-pew time at the designated area near where we'd meet, and Idyllwild has several options for a social eat and drink afterward. There's posts as recently as this weekend, so it looks like it is open and accessible to high clearance 2WD as well as 4WD.

A potential drawback is that 'adventure passes' are required; I don't know yet where/ how/ what $ to get these (and if we can easily obtain before 2/25). Unless someone else knows and posts up this info, I'll research that next.

Anyway, those are my starter suggestions. Picked these because they're fairly central; I figure eventually we'll plan separate meets in SD area and others north nearer Big Bear/ Mohave/ Palm Springs, but was thinking we're still building. I'm totally up to support other ideas for routes, if anyone else has one. Figured I'd see about interest here then, once we get an idea, I (or you?) can start a new thread for planning.

    Whatcha think, @nishibot, @Marty McFly , @eccracer104, @BestGen, @Spvrtan ...?

Please y'all tag anyone else you think may be interested/ available for a 2/25/18 meet-and-play.

I'm in for either location. Bee Canyon may be closed to shooting due to being dry and fire Hazzard.

Bee Canyon is a blast! I've done that trail many times. There's a few sections you'll want to go through slowly to avoid some pin stripes, but the trail is definitely Tundra do-able.

I also highly recommend Idyllwild Pizza Co when you're done!

Once you're done there you could also do Black Mountain. It's easier than Bee Canyon, lots of rock climbers and boulder climbers to watch. There's even a really nice lookout at the very top! Last time I went up there (a few weeks ago) they had put up a sign for the lookout to make it easier to find.

An Adventure pass can be purchased at Big 5 and certain gas stations. If you don't buy one ahead of time, Pine Cove Market (at the end of Bee Canyon trail) sells them there.

Thanks for the intel, Mike: good lookin' out! :fistbump:

Any chance you'll join in on 2/25 (or would that be more likely if we choose another route?) I'm definitely not trying to go rogue, just figured you might appreciate it if we take turns stepping up so you don't gotta play dad every time to all of us newbies (although you're an excellent and comfort-instilling leader!)

I'm guessing we'd need to have passes in hand before we start, rather than buying at the end though, to avoid a risk of ticketing-? I've got a Big 5 near me, so I'll check in and post up info. I appeciate the good push in the right direction! :hattip:
