It's a beautiful area. We had a cabin there when I was a kid. I've done a couple snow runs there. Not a lot of snow there now and with the warmup coming I doubt there'll be any soon.
For Gorman there is Hungry Valley SVRA. I haven't been there recently but it was fun. Lots of trails for most skill levels.

No matter where I go exploring I like to take a look at Google Earth to scout the area. In the truck I have an iPad mini on the dash with Motion X GPS running. Motion X let’s you save maps for offline use and it will track your position real time on the map while out on the trail. The key is to use a cellular version of the iPad since there is a gps chip built in.

I know some trails around Inyo creator loop up there and Deadpan's cave I think its called. Nothing too challenging though I have encountered. Want to find some better stuff.

That's a great idea! I've gotta do more surveillance on Google Earth first. My iPad is super out dated. I'm going to have to upgrade that too

I just started using Topo Maps and Google Earth. Save the maps before you leave so they still work only on GPS. Really handy tools I just learned about.

So did someone say Mammoth, boarding and camping???? Lets do it!!!

If the iPad you have is not a cellular version you can purchase an external gps antenna that works with the iPad.
Let me know Ron if you need help getting setup

Switching from using my phone to an iPad is on my "want to buy" list as well. I've used offline google maps in the past, finally bought Lead Nav for this last trip as I wanted to know 100% about where we were and where we were going haha. I wish I had looked into Motion X, looks like a solid platform!

It's far for a day trip; I meant it'd be the inland route if you decide to convoy up with some Tundra buddies to snowboard.
Inyo would be an example of a place you may/ may not do some off-roaring on such a snowboarding trip.
I'm good to sit out the snowboarding trip, and watch via the forum. Ski'd a couple times but haven't felt the urge to try or buy snowboarding equipment. But for those of you with boards and personalized snow-themed license plates :boink:, you definitely should find a way not to miss the season.

That area up there, north of Big Pine/ Lone Pine, is beautiful, and and that trip up 395 goes quickly and is... fascinating, seen occasionally-- compared to any place we'd rather live. Stop at Schat's Bakery in Bishop if you go through there. Mmmmm, jalapeño cheese bread!!!

In Mammoth, there's an underground bar called the Clock Tower Cellar, in the Alpenhoff Lodge. Mostly locals hang-out. They keep a bottle of Pappy which you can buy per serving; always an excellent sign.

Hahaha! Clearly, I'd get a lot out of a trip up there, just not for snowboarding.

It’s cold up in mammoth. I’ve never really camped in the snow so that might be challenging. We usually get a hotel or airBnB it.

Seems like a lot of people that missed the last meet are interested in the next one. I just wanted to bring up some ideas for another one if anyone is down for it. Also Sunnier you have to go! Your obligated to be there :boink::p

Haha! As the lead vehicle?! I'm easy to spot, a great test dummy for what's doable in a 2WD... and still sad about the ding on my hood from the last meet up. :(

It was super fun though! And if there's no challenge to it, I'd have no fun doing it. So probably by the time we get the next one set up, I'll be ready to go again. Need to either work through a crazy cross-country truck trade deal I'm playing with, or commit to adding a locker (per my original plan) and rocking the one I've got!

As for meet ups, I'll totally make it to any one-day meet-ups in the Temecula area or south. Probably go as far as Big Bear for overnights and, if/ when we've exhausted the trails in SD and Riverside, I guess I'll be ready to travel farther afield. ;) I'm good with waiting to camp 'til the nights warm up a bit though. :bananadead:

What! How’d you get a ding :annoyed:
I haven’t washed my truck yet to assess any damage
I’m good with another trail closer to everyone. Overnight stuff might be chilly right now. Hopefully you get either the other truck or the the locker  but i still think the inferno beast handled her business in Anza :)
I’m just throwing out feelers for anyone who’s interested in another meet

We caught some rocks from trucks in front of us during the bit of speedy driving we did up the dry river bed. Once I did a proper wash, I saw the pinstriping is so barely visible that I'm certain a clay bar and polish will put everything right, but we did not come though unscathed: got a down-to-metal ding on the leading edge of the hood. Proof we've been participants in the Arena, I guess.

He's located in Rancho Santa Margarita but he's mobile. A lot of guys over on T4R swear by him. Text him a pic of the damage and he'll send you a quote. The term 'miracle worker' is mentioned often in reference to him.
