    Had a couple of weird things happen today in regards to gas tank/mileage…
    First the warning for low tank didn’t go off until I had 15 miles to empty. So I go fill up and look at my dash and it tells me 575 miles to empty! I have the 38 gallon tank but usually a full tank says 400 or so! I’ll take it but I feel something is off. What gives?

    Check your battery, it may be starting to end its cycle and will start to lose certain info, like your fuel remaining mileage, time.. I've grounded out my battery and it always resets my fuel remaining counter.

    Did you by chance either disconnect the battery for some reason or manually reset the miles to empty, MPG, (or whatever) display?

    Every time I disconnect my battery or reset that stuff, it goes to default factory readings.
    It takes a couple tanks of gas to reset to (somewhat) actual readings..

    Yes this is aggravating and it did it on my previous 2008 Tundra I had. You would think it would sense what is actually in the tank and not just go to a default number. I hope this is fixed someday by Toyota.

    BTW he said he received an alert for low gas at 15 I had it happen to me at 3 miles to empty. Does anyone know how to get that number up to say 50 or so?

    Anything to consider, at least on my 26 gallon tank;
    I've never put more than 22 gallons of gas in my 26 gallon tank.
    I've had the gauge go all the way just past empty (just to test it out) and only got 22 gallons in to full.
    So there were at least 4 gallons in it went the gauge read empty.

    Although I usually buy gas before the low light ever comes on.

    Yes the light for sure comes on way before you are actually out of gas. I would just feel better if it gave an earlier warning especially when I am driving a long day storm chasing. It is easy to loose track of the gas levels though the new "38 gallon" tank really helps now.

    I usually fill up when the gauge gets to about 1/3 or 1/4. every time i fill up the range usually resets close to 600.
    When i first picked up my truck, range was at 620 lol.
    does the computer calculate range based on the tank level and your avg tank level before fill up?

    Just filled up the other day. Mine says 553 to empty, made a couple of short runs, everytime I turned it on it says 553. I think until the fuel gauge needle moves or "registers" it resets to the default.

    The number varies with the amount of lead in your foot. Switch to an unleaded boot and the number improves.
    I was shocked that my first number was 1000+ KM then 900 something and now barely 700 KM. I don't do a lot of hwy driving.
