So last year I bought the JBL Stadium 5 and Hertz K170's (with tweeters and sail panels). The system sounds fantastic.

However, I've noticed that the rear tweeters don't sound quite as pronounced. I do know for a fact that the rear tweeters are wired directly to the rear speakers - the original installer used the OEM hookups, which come straight from the HU, I believe.

I'm thinking it's one of two things:

    1. The fact that the front tweeters are right in front of (and off to the right/left of) me, whereas the rear tweeters are behind me/behind the seats.

    2. An intention to prioritize how the front vs. the rear sounds.

With that said, if I'm missing something, let me know. I'd think you'd want the front and rear speakers/tweeters to sound equally powerful.

The only speakers that run straight from the HU are the dash speakers so all of the door speakers are run through the amp. If they are hooked up the same as mine with the adapter from James then they should receive the same power from the amp. I have the system from James with the JBL 4505 marine amp with the same speakers you have in all 4 doors and the rear sounds the same as the front. If you are setting in the rear and they do not sound the same as the front I would pull the door panel and check to make sure nothing came loose or that they are wired correctly.

Also, do you still have the dash speakers hooked up? If so could that be playing tricks on your ears? I unhooked mine because they just overpowered the treble up front and made it sound horrible. Just a thought.

I would just prioritize the front. My old SQL car only had tweets in the front. The back only had mids. That was just considered rear fill. When you listen to live music, the sound is coming from in front of you. I think you should invest in a processor that does time alignment, so you can get that clean, balanced stereoscopic sound from the front stage. IMO, there is no such thing as rear stage. I used to love sitting in the rear of that old SQL Corolla. You could feel the seat vibrate from the bass and the clean stereo imaging coming from the front sounded like you were at a live show.

Sorry...to clarify, what I meant to say (and this is what James @ 12Volts told me) is that whereas everything else came through the original OEM amplifier, the rear tweeters (and possibly the dash) were unamplified, and came straight from the HU. He told me to have them wired in series with the rear speakers; and the sound shop didn't believe me until they rewired them and said "Huh...well, now we know something about these newer Tundras!" LOL

I do have them hooked up; that is entirely possible. I guess I never unhooked them because I didn't consider them much actual 'treble.' I may try that.

Y'know, that's a good point. I mean, I've never had anyone ride in the truck and say "Front sounds great but the back sounds like crap." LOL I have indeed had most people tell me that most sound manufacturers of speakers/HUs tend to prioritize the front anyway.
