For a good off the shelf wax I suggest Maguires NXT 2.0 tech wax. Give the truck a good cleaning along with a Claybar to remove the contaminants. I use Maguires light swirl remover. They have a more professional version in the bodywork section at the auto parts store. It comes in a tan bottle. They have numerous different grits depending on the severity of your scratches. Always finish with the finest grit or a glaze. Then a wax or sealant. Or both. I’m no professional but this is what I do, my truck turns out pretty damn nice. I’m sure you can get even better advice from Steve.

can you recommend a few good quality towels for regular drying after wash, for polish removal, for wax buffing?

I've been using these kind of all around https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CW1R8VI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The downside is if you use warm water the hot water tank is still full of soft water. Hopefully you either have a tankless or you use cold only when you shut the softener off. Either way it sounds like you’re having better results.

Should I plan to wax my truck this summer in top of using Hydro2?
I had planned to clean it well, ironX, clay bar, and use car pro eraser before doing a coat of the hydro2. Any recommendations other than my plan? I considered ceramic application but I don't have the time, skill, patience, or cash to do any paint correction.

Thanks @SouthBoundSteve, you're the best buddy. I'll pick up some of that soap. Seems to be just what I need. I will do some research about doing a polish, I really should do it instead of being so lazy.
Oh and 25% off at detailedimage the next 2 days :)
Maybe I'll get some new clay and lube too. I do have a new mother's clay bar though ...

Steve, thanks for the feedback! Haven’t gotten to a regular washing routine yet with the truck. When I do it probably gonna be every other weekend like I did my accord! Like I said before when I bought the truck it was used. They tried to cover it up with a light wax but when it rained I could see every scratch known to man all over the truck. I usually do all my waxing by hand but recently bought a little ryobi buffer. Gonna try products you recommended! I use microfiber towels as well. Let you know once this Georgia weather makes up its mind if it’s gonna be cold or hot!
