I've been using used washers/dryers my whole life. never really had any problems with the ultra cheap stuff i could find in south houston, but i moved to boerne, people want $1k for used fancy models.

I need something simple that can wash queen sized blankets. 4.5 cu.ft. Has room to spare, looking for a brand thats bulletproof.

the lg stuff that came with the house is rusting and the bushings are wollared.
    And probably from 2006.

should i head to south san antonio and buy the hot point or ingles, or are there new affordable 'dumb' machines with a decent reputation?

    like size/temp/duration knobs.

I've had great luck buying the old time names like GE and Maytag, but who knows what company they really are these days. Had a Samsung that shit the bed in two years, never again. Good luck.

I’d keep your eyes peeled for a laundromat that is closing/renovating and pick up an older speed queen. Those things are supposed to be bulletproof

I’m keeping our old (90’s) Kenmore / Whirlpool and Maytag units going with a few new parts here and there. If a big issue comes up like our last dryer had a few years ago, it goes for recycling, and I buy another used for cheap and give it a once-over. I don’t care if they match, neither does the Mrs.

I have no interest in spending half a months income or more on machines not expected to last five years. Only way I’d consider new is Speed Queen, I haven’t heard a bad thing yet, other than the prices.

We currently have a fancy Samsung and it's the warranty replacement after the first one shit itself within 2 months. When this one dies never again.

Our dryer was $50 off Facebook and still going strong though lmao

    Speed Queen, TC5000 classic.

Has a actual transmission, built like a tank. Designed to run decades before needing service.

    Too many, but not enough....
I always buy the super basic washer and dryers from your typical brands. New and cheap. I always beat em up, do maintenance once a year, and they hardly ever have issues. Great thing is they are simple to work on. I've replaced 1 motor, 2 belts and some trim peices here and there. All in all maybe 100 bucks in parts. I hate fancy tech and front load washers. BTW gas over electric all day, errday

That's the set we got a couple years ago, we had to wait 3 months to get them due to C19 but the wife loves them and they should be the last ones we buy.

With import Tariffs of 10% for aluminum, 25% on steel, 20-50% on appliances (20% on first 1.2million imported then 50% on rest), the prices you're finding are not suprising.

I'd say try to buy American but the same day the tariffs went into effect, American appliance makers increased their prices 25% knowing the foreign competition had higher costs to deal with, so they could get away with it, nice of them.

Also everyone costs for raw materials increased, as well as transportation and shipping charges. Its not just greed like some folks think, while in some cases that maybe true, but it comes down to the fact that if a supplier has to pay more to get their materials to market then the manufactures are going to pay more and the end consumer will pay more.

It sucks but thats how it is.

Our Maytag drier sounded like it had a tennis shoe in it all the time and it took about three cycles to dry anything. They were about 17 or so years old. I would have ran them until they broke. My wife had to have the speed queen models rlhok has. I picked them up and installed them this week. Yikes….they were like $1200 apiece.

I'd like to have Speed Queen but the wife won't do the top opening door.
Don't get Bosch, that was a mistake.

We have 6-year-old Maytags that have served us well.
Just had the heating element replaced on the dryer.

Too cheap for my own good. My brothers neighbor threw this out, and it just needs a pressure switch. Pretty easy $40 fix.

Hell, for that price, even if it craps out in a few years, it's still worth it. Nice find!

Womp womp... sensor didnt fix it, so i either spend $60 on the solonoid valve assembly, or i take it apart and add it to the stack.

Found the solonoid assembly for $30. I havent given up yet. When i feel its full, i can tap on the solonoid to shut the water off. And sometimes it shuts off on its own. If that doesnt fix it, then i'll see if i can get a fire going during a spin cycle.

My rule of thumb on purchasing lately, I don't by appliances from cell phone manufactures and I won't by an cell phone from an appliance manufacturer.

you're not wrong. But i didnt buy it. I've always preferred the 10yo ingles cheapies that can be had in south houston for $30 and a trade in. Sometimes the folks that work there will fix it on the spot for the same $30. Being younger was nice cause i got to flirt with the dudes daughter who would translate my english.

It just did a wash of sneakers. No regerts, might even move it into the house as is and just tap on the solonoids when i think its full.
