So freaking tired of GE washer. Our house came with a brand new washer and dryer. Three (3) weeks ago Sunday the washer stopped working.
We contacted GE who sent a tech the following week. Tech advised it’s the motherboard. We were understanding and asked for an ETA of the new board. Tech said about 5 business days.
Inconvenient, but it’s not his fault and we’ll figure it out.

A week passes and tech arrives when our motherboard arrived.
    -no dice.

Tech says it’s now part B. Tech orders part B and we wait another week.
    no dice.

We call GE and obtain an additional free warranty. (2 years)

Tech comes back out yesterday with part C.
    -No dice.

Called Sears. Sears offered a whopping $50. NO!

Sears is considering replacing the washer but only if approved (?) if not, then onto part D.

Wtf? At this point, I told my wife to go buy a new washer with a different brand.

Our brand new gas stove from GE also had an issue with the center burner or something. I think the wife said they fixed that after week two (2) although I may be in-correct as that’s not a priority for me.

My CEO is having this same issue on his LG washer.

Has anyone had luck with new washers?

We have a Maytag, I think they are all made by 1 or 2 companies right now so Maytag and Frigidaire (and possibly GE) are all made by the same company. Our Maytag is one of those high efficiency things. It stopped working after 6 months. A tech came out and said its the motherboard. Replaced it after waiting a week for parts and it still did not work. Next replaced a sensor that measures the door lid. That took care of it. Apparently, the lids on those are designed to be locked during the wash cycle. The sensor was faulty and telling the ecu that the door was unlocked and would stop the wash mid-cycle.

My Samsung set has been incredible and I got a deal at Lowe’s to not worry about matching perfectly. They are both Samsung, look almost identical, but the dryer is a little more basic than the washer which I was fine with. They were both fairly high tech but not top of the line. What I found was that the washers didn’t change capabilities drastically as you went up, but the price did.

Sorry you’re having a hard time but with all the girls in our house I would’ve assumed we would’ve had issues a long time ago if our Samsung was a lemon. Tell her to consider Samsung if she’s buying a new one, even if you guys don’t end up with one

I might’ve just gotten lucky but mine seem to be working great, and it runs at least one load a night

Does yours do the "prewash" load measuring? Mine locks the lid, then spins quarter turns to measure the size of the load and then fills up and proceeds into the wash cycle. If yours is designed to do that and it is crapping out during the "prewash" load measuring process, then I would say it is some kind of door sensor or balance sensor that has crapped out.

I've always owned Maytag. Great product. A couple coworkers like their Samsungs. Sears used to be pretty good with service but it's gone down hill. Seems to me if Sears can't fix it under warranty then they need to come up with replacement. They have to..

I think my hvac repair guy is moonlighting as your appliance repair guy... Replaced all my appliances with “better” LG ones, same crap, just looks nicer, and does things I won’t use.
Broke new Samsung washer and dryer in 18 months. Fixed myself, so much cheap junk inside.

    Only issues:

Rubber door seal tore once, due to my fault.

Coin catch is a PITA to get at.

    That sounds like terrible service.

I would let the builder know whats going on. They wont do much with appliance warranty stuff, but i'm sure they can get a hold of their rep and escalate it.

The washer and dryer that came with our Lennar house looked like a POS. Gave them to the in-laws. We brought our LG Tromm over from our other house. Been working great for the last 8 years or so

Went with Maytag washer and dryer when we bought our house three years ago. Had one issue with the washer door locking mechanism. Maytag sent a tech out and fixed it within 48 hours. Other than that, both have been great. Power Wash cycle is 2.5 hours long, but really works.

Lol, I dont do laundry- Carmen does. She's a whopping 4'7" and it's a front loader. I hope you didn't just jinx yourself!

Lennar is my builder as well. They have a new warranty guy and finally fired the prior chick. Good call...I wonder if they can assist. We registered all of our GE appliances within 24hours or so of moving in.

Go to a used appliance shop and get one that's about 20 years old. Old ones last forever . Fuck all this new high tech junk.

Bought Kenmore from Sears 15 years ago; top loaders. Old school. Only issue so far (knock on wood) was the sensor that stops the spin cycle when the door is opened. Tech disabled it and BOOM, back in biznezz.

Feel free to use ours if needed except for your underwear; you can keep those at the laundromat LOL

Someone gave me an older GE washer and dryer set about 7 years ago when I bought my house. And they were a few years old when I got them. Only issue was the sensor valve that told the washer when to stop filling got clogged. A quick search on youtube for a video and an hour later I identified the problem and had the washer fixed. Super easy to work on. I remodeled my bathroom recently and was going to replace the washer and dryer. I did some research and heard about issues like this...I mean "motherboard?!!" In a washer? I don't even want to mess with that shit. So I decided to hold on to my $1500 or so and wait until my free 10 year old washer and dryer goes completely Tango Uniform.

LOL, at this rate I wish we kept our 15 year old washer/dryer that never really had any issues. They were as bullet proof as the old Nokia phones.

I had a set of used Maytag washer and dryer, purchased in 99’. We had those until 12’ when the remodel. They still worked great.

Between refrigerators and washers...you might wanna take Jose up on his idea. Buaaahhhhaaa

I've been happy with the LG washer and dryer that I picked up on CL. The washer did just die last though. It's had a hard life and was used to begin with so I'm not too surprised. The front office, Suzanne, has ordered a new LG replacement that's supposed to arrive Monday.
Our GE fridge on the other hand, I've had to repair twice in 3yrs. What a PITA. Hard to replace it though since I built my cabinets around it.

We bought a brand new TOP LOAD LG washer and dryer set from Costco last year. We love them—haven't had a single issue and they work great. Also, Costco gives the extra year mfg warranty, plus we got another two years by using our Costco Visa for a total of four years.

As others have said: Speed Queen makes a reliable no-nonsense machine without all the bells and whistles of other brands, but they aren't very energy efficient. Sounds like something else I know... o_O

When I built my house my wife had to have GE front load washer and dryer. So we got a MGM gray set and after replacing parts 6 times in 5 year's I threw those pieces of shit away. We then went back to a top load washer and are very happy.

13 years on a whirlpool front load washer and dryer . If you need a tough washer, speed queen or something like that makes home machines that are on a industrial level
