This is regarding my 2002 Toyota Sequoia

So im just driving normally and i hit a patch of bumpy road (driving straight, about 30 mph, dry 80 degree conditions) and the skid light starts flashing, then i hear some beeping, and i can hear the abs engaging like crazy. It continued even as i slowed down. The abs pulsing happened for probably and entire minute. After i stopped momentarily, the VSC&TRAC stayed on and it drove normally. I know that when these 2 lights are on together the abs system is disengaged, but i dont know what caused this to happen.

I turned it off for about 10 min and it went away but when i started driving again, the abs pulsed (this time only for a couple seconds) then the VSC&TRAC stayed on. This time i noticed that the brake pedal felt a little stiffer. Like the brake booster wasnt working 100%. The brakes still seem to work fine but i was driving cautiously from that point on.

The parking brake light, and the CEL are not on and did not flash both times.

    thoughts?

EDIT: here’s what happened almost exactly, found this on youtube

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
I would start by reading for a Pending CEL code, if one is there it's the best place to start.

If none, then I'd start checking connections to/from ECU and then those on the wheel sensors for ABS/TRAC. Luck.

Man that's annoying, hope you find an easy fix.
The VSC/TRAC system on my wife's 04 sequoia is really sensitive in slick conditions but hasn't gave us any trouble in dry weather.
Do you know a way to disable it?
I think I've seen 1st gen tundras with a VSC off button, can anyone confirm that?

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe those are integrated into the front wheel bearing assemblies at least on the front . What year is your truck ?

i read this also. The abs and speed sensor are tied into one unit.

It doesnt appear that way when i looked up what the sensors look like

Its very sensitive and unsafely annoying. You ever lost traction trying to pull out in traffic and have the VSC cut power, almost causing you to get rear ended. I hate the VSC system. I know a way to disable it but i believe it also disables the ABS system too. And it leaves 2 amber lights on the cluster which annoys the crap out of me.

Im honestly hoping thats what it is. Otherwise its going to be a costly and time consuming.

some have said they changed their master, some changed their brake booster, others said the yaw sensor failed that caused the vsc to engage.

Take it to the dealer and pay the techstream diagnostic fee.. a simmilar thing happened to my 16 4runner.. i used techstream to read the error.. it pin pointed the event.. it was a wheel sensor..
It was like a black box... recorded the speed, acellerator position, brakes, each wheel speed, too much stuff to list..

I bought the program from ebay to make some customizations to the truck

    +1

Could be as simple as metal debris stuck to the magnetic tip of the sensor.

First thing I'd do is read the codes, which you're already planning to do. If it points to a wheel speed sensor, pull that sensor and inspect/clean it. Also spin the wheel and inspect the tone ring through the sensor mount hole to see if there's any debris or irregularities. Blow out the mount hole with compressed air.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Do you have a link for the techstream program you bought on Ebay? Tired of my seat belt warning.
    Thanks!

Yes it could be that simple but it’s not that likely.

Years back I went over a speed bump too aggressively in our 2004 Highlander. Dash lit up like Christmas tree....VSC-Off, VSC-Trac on etc. Codes pointed to speed sensor, unplugged said sensor, plugged back in, cleared codes....problem fixed !

Seatbelt chime is exactly why i bought it.. this was 2016, and i am using a laptop with windows XP.. Today there are newer versions with newer drivers that will run on current operating systems.. I do not know enough about them to recommend any..

Quick search came up with this.. i dont know what the current version is though..

Hard to tell over the internet, but probably about as likely as a sensor failing. Who knows?

I had a similar issue in my 2002 Tundra. I was getting false ABS activation at low speeds. I tried 3 different wheel speed sensors and it didn't fix the problem. Our forum Toyota tech says it's most likely something wrong with the tone ring on the axle. I ended up just pulling the ABS fuses and that solved the problem for now. I'll eventually have to replace my CV axles.

There may not be a code on the OBD scanner, will need to read the abs/vsc codes too. I wrote a post in how to do this without a scanner if you don't have one (that will scan the abs codes).

Yes a broken tone ring will cause erratic abs issues for sure !

Does pulling the fuse light up the CEL or anything else?

Yes. My ABS light is permanently on now but it's better than the false ABS activation. I would do what others suggested and pull the wheel speed sensor out, clean it, and reinstall it. It might just be debris on there. Try that before doing anything else.

Totally blanked on updating you guys. I dont have a definitive answer but i have a hunch it is the yaw sensor. Heres the readout

    1DEF8B5E-53E1-4BC8-BECC-33FD46C1BBB4.jpg

Individually tested and monitored the values of all 3 sensors (steering angle sensor, pedal force sensor, and yaw sensor) and all were functioning correctly according to the troubleshooting instructions.

I decided to clear the codes and drive around with the yaw sensor loose. I tilted it with my hand as i drove, and it engaged properly and normal driving could resume after. But a couple times (while tilting it by hand) all the same lights came back on and the same 3 codes reappeared (those times I was tilting it rather aggressively and probably out of the sensors range though). Leading me to think that the culprit is my Yaw sensor. However, after shaking it around and unplugging it (in case of bad connection), it hasnt acted up at all. So its either going bad, or there was a bad connection. Until it acts up again im going to leave it alone, but the first time it those these codes again im going to change the yaw sensor.
