Am I the only one that thinks the volume knob is brilliant? I love the that thing. Perfect size and distance from shifter. Absolutely perfect!

    Yes.

But I still just use the knob occasionally.

Volume knob with big center power/pause button is awesome. I thought they had included that just for me!

...and did you notice how the steering wheel vol/skip buttons are now WORSE than they used to be on previous gen?!

I also find myself reaching fo rthe VOL button/wheel more than before....b/c the steering wheel buttons are not as effortless and "pleasant" to use as on my 2017 Tundra.

I haven't had any struggles with the volume/skip buttons on my truck. I had a '14 and '18 Tundra. The biggest gripe I had was the function changes on the steering wheel controls between the '14 and '18.

my only struggle has been learning all of the steering button placement. I think they moved every single button as far away as they could from where it was before

I have long fingers and find the volume knob is perfectly aligned to my hand when I rest it on the shifter I can just increase or decrease. What I find strange is there no MUTE function to quickly mute the radio unit.

I have the basic SR5 interior/entertainment package so I have the small volume knob which I don’t really care for quite honestly.

I find it’s too small and odd placement as it’s integrated into the bottom/left of the screen.

So if I am not careful sometimes my curved index finger brushes the screen and selects whatever is on the menu/screen at that time.

It’s a minor inconvenience though as I use the steering wheel controls 95% of the time.

I feel like I saw somewhere that holding the Mode button on the wheel will mute the radio like the previous Gen did, its just not labeled... I'll have to try that next time I'm in the truck to see...

...what? They're buttons. And they work just fine. Placement is fine too. What made previous gen so much better? Coming from a 2017, I can't say either one was better or worse than the other. Simply different.

Sometimes it seems like some of you guys can't help but nitpick the most ridiculous things lol.

I didn't realize the 8" screen came with that tiny volume dial from their other models.

Man, I'd argue it's worth upgrading to the 14" system for the volume knob alone!

Yeah, but then I'd have a big screen TV in my field of view. I've driven trucks with similar screens and it's a hard pass from me. The small screen on the SR5 is perfect. The fact that the small screen isn't available on trims above SR5 is what kept me from stepping up a trim level.

I guess you get what you pay for. I went with a SR5 Sport that has the smaller screen and I always hit the screen when I use the volume knob. I sat in a Limited and the volume knob is better located under the big screen. My mistake.

I absolutely hate the volume know on my 8". It is stiff to turn, completely smooth action, and slick on the finger. All that makes it very difficult to tell if your finger is slipping or the know is turning. Least they could have done is knurl the touch surface.

Good think steering wheel controls are good!

Agreed. The volume knob is a thing of beauty. Probably came out of the Lexus parts bin. Steering wheel audio controls are pretty crappy though. Flimsy with poor tactile feedback.

Agree & am working with an Etsy seller I got the metal knurled knobs for my taco from to make knobs to fit the 22 Tundra. I’ll post link once available.

Will that be something that goes over the current smaller knob or one would need to do a replacement (aka taking the radio apart or some other replacement method)

It’s a pull off old/push on new in seconds. For the 2 knob taco it was $30, not sure Tundra price. I really loved the metal knobs on the taco vs the similar small/slippery factory knob. Was hoping my old ones would fit the Tundra, but the stem on the radio is not the same size as the taco.

Just got back from a trip and installed the “prototype” knob from Tacomods on Etsy. Fit is great, size is perfect, the knurled edges make it 100x better than the factory “tiny” knob, & the backlighting still works! Highly recommend getting once they get a part page set up or contact Rex the seller at Tacomods.

the guy who company it is was active on Tacoma world years ago when I got mine. I’m not sure he still does them? He asked one time for the TRD version in red and blue but didn’t get a lot of interest I guess, which is why he never put them on the site.
