Its a sudden change, if I decide to take.

We have had issues at our pro desk with reliable people. I came into work this afternoon and found out one member of that team is leaving this week. On a side note he was close to being termed.

I half jokingly told my SM that I wanted that position. Its a M-F 7am - 4pm. weekends off.

He said done, I need to send a email up the chain letting district and region know I approve your stepping down.

    What? huh?

Yes, listen I need you at that desk.

    So we had a chat.

It does involve a small cut, it wont even be noticeable on my check, think $30 per week. if that. I actually am paid very well, I have no complaint with my pay.

I have to give my decision tomorrow morning, they need that spot filled fast.

While I want those hours, I am torn about leaving my department. I took it over 7 years ago, took it from a miserable failing mess to a success. My inventory numbers this year were the best in the store. I worked hard to train, inspire and lead my team. I have poured my heart and soul into that department. I honestly never thought it would be this tough to let it go.

I have peace about the move, I worked that desk for a year and half before I moved into management.

I believe from my discussion with my sm that this move could have me back into management only running the pro desk.

So heres another beer, to a new day tomorrow.

Hope I make the right choice.

Do what’s in your heart. Would he set you up to fail? I hope not. Would he place anyone there, or his to talent? Will it make your life easier where you can enjoy more activities outside of work? Higher stress and less pay?

Make a quick sheet of pros/cons.

I don't believe he would set me up to fail, he has held me back from promoting up but I have been told its performance punishment, common in what I do, I have peers at other stores and they tell me they go thru the same thing.

Stress would actually be less, instead of taking care of a department and at times the entire store, I only would focus on sales to contractors.

Yes a set schedule would give me more of a life back, and weekends off could be spent with family I don't get to see often.

As I said pay would be about $30 less per week before taxes. no big deal there

I think you know the answer.

Hey, this may open you up for future opportunities should you become interested.

If you turn this down who knows when the next one will come up, and if they’ll consider you after declining.

Its a very sudden turn of events.

Thing is I have been after either a
    set schedule
    raise
or RMA, to promote up for over a month hot and heavy.

Now this opens up. Hard not to walk thru a door that gets opened for you 5 minutes after you clock into work on a Monday afternoon, lol.

As I stated before I worked that department for a year and half, and still take of care of contractors who have followed me to my current department and refuse to work with anyone else. lol

    What's your schedule like now?
A set schedule is great, I have had one for a couple years and I love it.
Weekends with fam sounds pretty damn good to me and less stress is always great.
Is there any way that you can keep your current pay? 30 a week doesn't sound bad, but that's 1500 a year which is nothing to brush off. Or is there some way that you can make up that pay? Maybe some incentives? Or filling in on some weekend shift? Overtime? Maybe weekends off you can make and sell some of your delicious meats? Haha
Is there anyway way this could lead to a promotion with a schedule and pay that works to your benifit?
Lots to think about but in the end what do you really want and what will improve your quality of life and make you happy?

My hours are all over the place,
    this week its
    close,
    off,
    mid shift
    close
    off
    morning shift
    morning shift

its like that or worse at times.

I am going to push for half of what I was told I would loose, again its not that big of a deal I can make that back in a year or two in raises.

I could get a side gig if I wanted to with the set hours but honestly I want the time off.

A set schedule makes your personal life so much easier to plan appointments, outings, events, family plans, etc. etc.

I totally get why you smoke meat now. Therapy in food.

I would jump on that ASAP. Schedules matter, and the one thing you can never buy back is time, unless your @Marty McFly.

Sounds to me that you know what you want to do. Just having 2 days in a row off is huge. Those split shifts are rough. I'd probably give up that money to take the new hours and "normal" schedule. As far as your current position...think of it this way, you turned that department around and gave that crew a solid foundation to build off of, they'll be ok without you...because of what you've done.
Oh and did I mention 2 days in a row off? Couple that with a set schedule and a change of scenery may be good for you. And a challenge to improve that department just like you did the other.

You would be surprised at how many contractors have told myself and my mangers that they have the wrong person running that desk.

2 years ago I changed my schedule at work. I work 3 days, 12-14 hrs day, every other weekend as a nurse. I used to to 2 shifts from 11am-11pm, and one 3pm-3am. A 9am-9pm opened up and I ended up going for it. I took about a $7k pay cut per year based on shift differential. That sucked. But I can sleep, wake up, and just be more normal in general not going to bed at 1 or 2 or 4 am, with a 5 year old daughter wake up time is always the same. Best thing I ever did was switch. I don't miss that 7 grand a year. And I'm starting to earn it back by picking up hours here and there while she's in school. With my old schedule I was miserable and tired and never picked up shifts

I loved that guy... Too hilarious

Have you ever heard the "Navy recruiter and Hamster episode"?

Hmm, I thought that was relatively common language, I have heard the term 'pop knot' since I was young (4 years old). Maybe it is an Okie thing...

Proud(ish) to be an Okie, lol
