I'm looking at purchasing an undercover hard tonneau for my 2019 tundra. I am looking at a few videos and reviews and I'm a little worried about the possible contact with the paintwork on the side of the bed. With driving around I anticipate movement and rubbing up against the paint work.

Has anyone got any experience with an undercover or this issue?

    Thank you.

I had one but took it off and sold it. That’s the corner mine came in contact with my paint!

Did you try and put something like a weather strip down to combat the edging?

Get a Rugged 2 tri fold tonneau cover and you won’t have to worry about a thing. Water tight, keeps valuables secured as it is a hard cover, and can easily be removed in under a minute.

The guys I bought it from where supposed to do that when they installed it but they never!
Wasn’t impressed but they did fix my paint for me so that was alright. But ya a weather strip would of helped a lot!

It's something like that, I'm trying to figure out what to do, only thing I like about this bed cover is nothing gets wet, DOWNSIDE is packing everything up like a video game Tetris lol

I do prefer/like this better but someone is selling the undercover for $100. I bet that runs at around 600?

Yep it is. The plan is to respray it dark gray or black. I just wouldn't want to buy it if it meant sacrificing my paintwork. I think I'm gonna look for a magnet tape with a softer component on the outside. I think...

@Padj if you do get, contact Undercover ask em about making adjustments so that it sits right, and as added security, try find some type of padding to put on inside corners

From what I've researched it sounds like a common problem with them. It sits right for a few months and when the weather gets to it it moves it around etc. Definitely would use a counter measure just want something to look right on the truck and not damage the paintwork with glue or anything similar.

I've got one that I installed a couple of months ago and so far I have seen any problem with rubbing. I love mine and it is waterproof .... even in a Cat 4 hurricane!

I also have the Undercover cover. It is great! Bone dry inside, and it will hold my weight (160#) on top. I had a bit of rubbing on the driver side rear corner. I rasped the inside corner edge of the cover to create a bevel - very minor. Problem solved. I highly recommend it.

I had a three fold Backflip on my Tacoma, it sagged and leaked after about 2 years. The sagging top held water and made the leaking worse. Once it started sagging I didn’t trust it with my weight.

I just wish there was a version of the Undercover that would include a ladder rack for my kayak and allow the tailgate to open with the lid closed.

Yeah 762. I’ve seen some really good reviews on soft covers that fold. Much cheaper too.

Mine rubs on the back right corner. I've had it adjusted a few times at the place that installed it but it seems to keep happening. I can rub most of the scraps away with my finger but there is some paint damage that could probably be wetsanded away. It bothered me at first but with the front end taking a beating from highway travel I don't care anymore. It's very minor and I love the cover other wise. I had a trifold prior (forget brand) and it kept leaking like crazy. This at least keeps my stuff dry.

I had an undercover on my Tacoma and it fit very well with no rubbing and made a good watertight seal. What I did not like about it was that in order to use the bed for large items it had to be removed. I went with the Revolver X4 cover on my Tundra because of this. It is a way better cover than the undercover and I can just roll it up if I want to use the bed for large items. It is expensive though.

I have no rubbing with mine.
