    Hello, Everyone.

I had the dealer change my front and rear differentials this past week because they did it for a very reasonable price. I took them 6 quarts of Ravenol 75W-85 because that is what the owners manual calls for (They use 75W-110 for everything!)

Anyway, gave the truck back to me and 1 quart of the fluid. I reminded them that the rear calls for 3.8 quarts and the front calls for 2.2 quarts, for a total of six. They said they filled them up until they dribbled out and had a quart left.

I had them put on the printed receipt that they only used 5 quarts just in case there is an issue. So, are my diffs under-filled? Could it be they didn't get all the old fluid out?

Just curious what you all think. Thanks.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile for you to just open up the fill plug on each diff and try to see where the level is.

What he said. Just try to add more and see if it’s full. Cant overfill as it’ll just pour out of the fill hole.

mine took pretty close the 6 total. they may not have fully drained?
i'm honestly just get under there and check/fill it myself. if you remove the top fill and it dribbles out, it's full.
did they notate the 75w-110 on your invoice/receipt? i'd verify that as well to make sure you have a paper trail in case anything ever happens or comes up.

Yes, I had them notate that they wanted to put in 75W-110 but that I provided 75W-85 per the manual for them to put in the cases.

The problem is that I have torn my rotator cuff---can't get under there. That is why I had them do it.

Not sure how your rear diff. is set up, but I just did mine and the drain plug is on the lower passenger side of the pumpkin. So as someone on here recommended, I jacked up the drivers side rear axle/tire to aid in draining the oil. When I re-filled, I put back in 3/4 of what the owners manual says and drove it around the block and made a few u-turns and figure 8 turns to spread the fluid around. I parked it and topped-off the fluid and it took almost exactly what the owners manual calls for on my particular truck. I'm sure you're fine, but for peace of mind you can always pull the plug(s) and check.

Been there with the rotator cuff tear and surgery. It sucked! As for diff oils, being a little bit low while you are healing will not likely cause any problems unless your driving thousands of miles. Just check them out and top off if needed when you finish recovery and therapy. That surgery wasn't one I would want to do again, after anesthesia wore off, it felt like I had been shot in the shoulder, just horrible pain.
