That is why the old cars stayed in good condition. My belief is that the companies nowadays want it to rust/fall apart quicker to keep selling number consistent more often than later.

I recently bought a 2003 Tundra, yes the frame has rust, but, nothing really bad, surface and scales on it. No holes, nothing rusted through. "OUR" biggest deterent of under body damage is the "brine" that our nations "road" dept's are using to melt ice. I have seen 2014 Tacomas frames rusted completely through. (Friend is a mechanic) at a Toyota dealership. Whatever year of truck you have...and your area uses brine....have it under coated. Me? I was in touch with a company called "The Rust Store" emailed them pictures of the frame ....asked them what they recommended. Within one day they responded! Couldn't believe it. Dan, the tech guy there said I should use a product called "Rust Bullet Paint" in a nutshell.....it stops rust and prevents any further damage. One coat...no top coat. If you have questions ...this site has answers....check it out....."The Rust Store"

If you've already been bitten by rust from road salt or brine as described previously and are looking to stop and prevent further issues check out POR-15 (stands for paint over rust).
I used it on my old Sierra worked as advertised as long as you prepped properly(remove flaking or peeling rust) and applied properly (follow humidity and temp guidelines).

The stuff is a beast though. Respirator and eye-pro a must. I'd also tyvek it or wear some old clothes you don't mind throwing out. Wrap your head and face in a tshirt too. It doesn't come off of your skin for about a month.

fluid film is the way to go. regular undercoating traps moisture and causes rust. you can even spray fluid film on over rust and it will stop it from rusting further

I too like POR 15. I put it on my boat trailer and it's been holding up well for years. Pretty amazing product.

Is there anything under my truck that can be damaged by Fluid Film or can I pretty much spray it everywhere?

I would also like more info on this.

Looks like there's was black paint/undercoating sprayed on my truck. Doesn't look super thick. The fluid film site / FAQs indicate it might soften existing coatings and or paints.

If I read it correctly. Lol.

Well I took your advice and splurged for a respirator and tyvek suit. Rocked eyewear as well, my neighbors thought I was headed to the moon but wow was it worth it.

    Great advice!

Yes, it will soften the undercoat. Not sure about paint though.

I had mine done at the dealer when i purchased the truck. They discounted $500 of the $1000 price. They also included the paint protection as well as interior fabric protection. I looked underneath when i got the truck back and they covered everything. Nice job they did. Was it worth it? In my opinion, yes.

My CPO was coated with a black coating. Thicker than paint.

Didn't cover *everything* but I hit the leaf springs (in between) and a couple of rusty bolts, inside of C-channel frame etc. with the fluid film. we'll see how she does.

*edit* Getting our first storm now. I'll post a T.I.T.S. pic tomorrow.

Just sprayed some fluid film on an old rag and gave the wheels a wipe down with it after washing it today.

Obviously didn't want to spray directly onto the wheels but I figured this might help fight rust from the awful brine they put on the roads up here.
