Turtle Power- who has one?

Sub'd. I move these little guys off the road all the time when I have time. Never had a pet turtle though.

Probably my favorite animal of all time. We had two box turtles that lived in our backyard for over ten years. Marked the shell with a dot of fingernail polish to tell them apart. When I fixed my fence, we didn’t see them around anymore so I assume they weren’t able to maneuver under it anymore. Miss those little guys

Never have had one as a pet but the kids have caught many for photo ops then quickly released. The latest, a baby soft shell.

 

We have an endangered box turtle here in Wisco as well. Ornate, I believe, never have seen one. Saw a wood turtle the other day though, pretty rare here, maybe 3rd I’ve ever seen.

 

This is Fred. Fred is a desert tortoise and he is retarded. I found Fred one morning in my garage, he had to have been a released pet who wasn't taken good care of.

Anyways, like I said, Fred is retarded, he lives in my backyard usually under my grill. He has an insatiable appetite for canned cat food (horrible for him, I now feed the cat on a raised platform) and also does other really stupid shit like hibernate for a month or so in summer (currently doing so, I assume), like I said, he is retarded.

All that being said, we really like Fred and do everything we can to keep him healthy and happy. He also loves to soak in his "pool".

 

This is one that I almost stepped on one morning last year at 430am. We had a box turtle lay eggs in our flower bed so I assume this was one of them.

 

That my friend is awesome and made me laugh out loud. You need to make “Fred is a retard” shirts with his pick on them. I’d buy like 10.

Like every other, it does have some downsides, but for the most part I agree

 

Live near a creek so I see them all the time, cutting through the yard. I’ll see more after it rains. Even had one come up to the garage door after a storm and it kept trying to get in…going up and down the door.
I’ll also will stop and get them out of the road. I’ve seen a few that were run over…

I’ll remember to take pics next time.

 

I saw them a lot as a kid and now I rarely do. I need to spend more time outside apparently.

Many. She would also tell you real quick that it’s not a turtle. It’s a marginated tortoise… and her name is Clara.

Mine doesn't give a shit about the cat, only the cat food. Also, what a stupid cat. Why the hell didn't it just jump up onto the table?

 

Had 2 leopard tortoises, lost one a few weeks ago. I came out one morning and found him upside-down. Had to have been like that all night because when I checked on them the previous evening they were walking around like usual. He must have flipped himself trying to get on top of the other one for...reasons.

On the bright side, I still have one female leopard tortoise who laid 4 eggs! I have them in an incubator but it's too early to tell if they're actually fertile. I'll find out in a month or so.
