Hey, my daily 2009 tundra decided to start acting up this morning for some reason and have checked alot of the common things and cant pin point what it could be.

I have power, put key in, turn key, starts, revs to low rpm once, but wont turn over all the way?

Havent had anything like this before, hoping its not something stupid. oil pressure gauge on dash is not moving either for some reason, yet it has oil and gas in it?

Any help would be appreciated thanks alot

Check battery condition/charge, check batt cables and ground, ensure nothing is disconnected (sensors, etc) in the engine bay. Battery going out (not fully dead) will cause all sorts of funky things. If no obvious problems see if you can get or borrow a code reader and check if the truck is throwing any codes.

I had a 2003 Tacoma do this after I opened the air box, it kept on doing it until I just held my foot on the trottle. It sounded like a big cam V8 which was nice for the 2 seconds it did that(idling at like 200).. could be a dirty air filter, bad battery connection, heck maybe even fuel pump( but I doubt it) i have a 2008 that has had fuel pump issues for years now. They’re designed to almost break, but not let you down. If it’s none of these things I could probably pull some more things out of my butt. While I might enjoy doing that, i bet it’s nothing serious.;)

Also forgot to mention it did have a bad battery and it ran fine and started fine after I did that. The only reason it didn’t start right before and after that was because of the battery so yeah. The three main things i would check is air filter, trottle body, and battery.

Having trouble understanding this, because if it starts then it's definitely "turning over" several times. Honestly this sounds like what my truck does every 6 months or so & it's a security issue. I always keep my brown valet key with me and use it when my truck starts and immediately shuts off. The brown key always starts it & then the next time I start it I'm back to the black key.

    Pretty things
Feel like I see this condition arise fairly often around these parts (the forum)

Somebody will figure out an actual fix for this sooner or later.

Anyone know if the security module has a backup battery? I remember an issue with an old SAAB security system that was remedied by replacing the backup battery in the alarm module.

I bought a couple blank keys off of Amazon for my Tundra and the local hardware store cut them for free. So in the parking lot I tried them, The engine turned over but wouldn't fire since they weren't programed to the truck yet. When I've had an issue like the truck starts then almost immediately dies it's something like the mass air sensor. In one case my father's Celica got stolen and the pipe between the air filter and throttle body was missing. It would start then immediately die.

It is your key. I had this same problem and solved by using my second non-corrupted key.

I researched replacing my key at the time but since I had a second I chose to just roll with it until it fails. I also still have the valet key as a spare.
