I am about to purchase a 2018 Toyota Tundra Crew Max Limited. I have wanted one for a while and finally found the right truck! It sits on 35s with a 3" lift. I love everything about the truck, except the torque and MPG. The current owner said he gets 10/12 MPG. I talked to my mechanic and he said add a tuner, cold air intake and muffler (he specified which ones, I just don't remember) all for around $1,000. I like to step on it and go, similar to the v6 twin turbo on the F-150s. Is it possible to get significantly better MPG (at least 15???) and better torque? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
PS Maybe I should have posted this in the main forum?

I don't believe you're going to see a 5 mpg increase by adding a tune, CAI, and exhaust. I would say a large part of the torque loss and mpg decrease you're seeing is related to the 35" tires. My stock truck has plenty of power for my liking and combined city / hwy averages that 15.5 mpg mark.

Unfortunately with any tuck, the 35's will cost you in torque and economy. Also, from what I've researched, I believe you may have a little more than $1,000 in the three modifications you listed. Changing out your rear end gearing would likely be the best way to return the lost torque.

All in all, you can't beat a Tundra, but they've never claimed to be easy at the gas pump! I don't think you'll regret the purchase!

Hey @mstaley48, thanks for the response. I was hoping to get 13/15 if possible. Maybe I can get close to that. And I am just now noticing the Tundra has no Oh $hit handle on the driver's side?!

A tune and exhaust may help some, I didn't mean to discredit them as being totally useless. Driving style will play a big part! I can't really comment much on economy with 35's but other members on here may be able to share their experiences.

No handle on the driver's side, however there are plenty of members on here who have purchased them and installed. I know @Roman has listed the part number for it before. I've owned half ton's from all of the big three manufacturers before by Tundra. I can tell you I'll never look back.

Post a pic and let's see it when you get it! I'm getting ready to go to 35's and not looking forward to the mpg's but also don't really care. I love my Tundra! Also getting an Icon suspension.

Thanks for the info and insight @Dabutcher @mstaley48 . I love my truck! I need nerf bars, a driver's side handle and whatever I do with the motor, but this is a great start.2018 Tundra Limited.jpg
