I can go a while, hunting season is over. But they are pretty reputable with good quality work so hopefully no issues.

With new paint you want to wait about 6 weeks. I was speaking with one of the detailers on here. The guy from Florida. Magician or something like that. Anyway, as the paint cures it needs to vent or something like that.
He told me no wax, polish or ceramic coating for about 45 days. I will try to look for the link.

I have a question. Is there a certain amount of paint cure time before you can add sealants or ceramic coatings?

I ask because my truck is finally going into the body shop on Tuesday.
I figure if the truck is getting all new panels and new paint, might as well get it sealed and ceramic coated, while I am gone for 3months.
Also how long does it take to apply the ceramic coating?
Fresh paint needs to cure for about 3-4 weeks before applying wax, sealant or coating.

"In an effort to explain to their customers why paint manufacturers recommend waiting for at least 30 days to pass before applying a coating of wax or a paint sealant, the painter can,
    • 1. Try to explain the outgassing process over and over again throughout their career.
      2. Use a simple analogy that the average person can understand without challenging the painter's judgment or expertise.
My personal guess is the second option.

If the simple analogy works, it will accomplish the painter's goal and allow the painter to get back to work, not spend his time explaining the painting process to each customer as they pick up their car. The goal, of course, is to prevent the customer from sealing the paint with some type of wax or paint sealant until the paint has completely dried and the out-gassing process is completely over.
    "

That actual application of a quality ceramic coating is 1-3 hours (or more if shortwave IR lights are used to cure the coating).
This does not include the prep time (yes, you will still

My time was a little off and his screen name is Merlin

I was told two weeks and would be good. I know not right away, but 45 days seems a lot.

I will definitely ask him how much time is needed. Don't want the gases getting trapped and ruining the paint job.

It was supposed to have been done on the 10th of Dec, then the 17th of Dec. Now I have no idea, I will be calling them in the morning. To date it has been 5 months. Replacing the roof takes the longest. I can tell you they aren't getting paid until I am satisfied.

@jewsNbrews make sure you give her a thorough test drive too. With all the metal they had to fix, I'd want to make damn sure it drives the same. I've heard of folks accepting repairs based on visual inspections alone, only to trade the vehicle in a little later because it never "felt the same" again.

    Just my $0.02!
