I’m all about the laugh. My sense of humor is dark and I can get cranky, but I fully embrace people getting a laugh at my expense. Sometimes that’s all we can do.

Sorry if anyone in the world heard me screaming f-bombs about 30min ago. I was trying to make an appt at Discount Tire to fix my flat. Apparently I left tires in my cart at some point in the past few months and the app went ape shit when trying to confirm my repair appt. I had to back the entire process out, delete the tires and start all over. That was the final straw on my morning and I unleashed a string of curses that will take a few trips to Confession to fully repent for.

I mean, there are other pics I could have sent, but being banned for 30 days by both the mods and wifeovershoulder wouldn't make for a good day.

Bummer. I hate tire trouble. It's an instant rage thing for me, and I don't fully understand why.

I just checked, and I don't seem to be losing pressure. I'll take a pic with the wheel turned, and then I think I'll be pulling the quills to see if they made it far enough to cause a leak. Most of the tread ones are in the lugs, so they should be safe. A couple went between the lugs, so slightly more risk, but it's the little group in the sidewall that has me concerned.

Well, even the sidewall ones look like they got the thicker parts. A few tips stayed in the lugs when the quills broke during the remainder of my commute, but they'll get worn out as the tire is used.

    Tentatively optimistic at this point.

Probably tough for those things to make it through the belts under the tread. If you found the ends of the needles in the sidewall hits, you're probably fine.

That's what I'm hoping. The sidewall ones didn't get pressed in by driving, so they were not really that deep. All sidewall ones came out clean, so I am thinking I'm ok.

I crawled under at a couple points to see if any wedged in the frame or anything so I could get an idea of how high it reached. Looked at the brake lines on the rear wheel, too. All clear.

    Guess I'm lucky today.

oof - the brake lines. I would not have thought about that. If any are stuck in nooks and crannies around the exhaust system, they could be a (small) risk of fire.

I hit a pig on my way out of my uncles hunting ranch in my '06 Tundra probably 5 or 6 years ago. It was 10:30 p.m., and I was going probably 75, which I surely should not have been. Four that were all between 50lbs and 100lbs ran out of some bushes as fast as they could, right across my path. Heavy braking, heavy veering on a lonely, narrow 2-lane, and I was in a hilly area (Palo Pinto, which isn't officially 'hill country' in TX). If I'd rolled over one of the bigger ones, it could toss me upside down, possibly out of sight of the road, and there was the chance that nobody would be by until morning. All of that going through my mind in the .07 seconds until I hit the smallest one, against the outside face of the front passenger wheel. Only. No dents or dings in the truck, and a fully live Steven at the wheel. The only negative effects were 5 lbs of pig shit across the passenger side of the truck, and the figurative shit pants.

Glad your truck is okay. Have a better afternoon.

Thanks for the fun story and the better afternoon wishes. I appreciate both.

As for other places being at risk, the spiked speed bump was on the driver side of the truck, so it didn't pass under anything inside the frame. Just the front wheel as near as I can tell, because the rear tire is free of quills. That, or the front tire rolled him onto his back and the rear wheel just went over the non prickly side of him. Either way, as it stands the only thing at risk is a single tire, so that in itself is a blessing. Radiator hoses, break lines, fuel lines, etc. are the bigger concerns when going over one of these things, and my skids cover the majority of that.

Still breathing is the only requirement today. Sundays are made for sleeping in and lounging. We all need to rest sometime.

I’m also still horizontal. Actually slept pretty good last night. Need to get to the store this morning to get a rub roast to smoke this week. Then a farmers market for lunch followed by a lazy afternoon.
