Both have a place in my playlist, as does Slayer and Anthrax.
I like that Megadeth has (mostly) maintained their signature style of thrash throughout, but Mustaine’s voice drives me nuts. I picture Beavis grunting through a raucous shit while trying to “sing”

Metallica has definitely taken a wandering (and sometimes questionable) path. But I’ve also enjoyed all of the different iterations of Metallica in different ways, which is why I think overall they are my favorite artist. They haven’t just tried to remix the same recipe. But as @Blue Thunder can attest - the arena stops head banging when pretty much anything post Black album is played at their concerts. But there are still tunes in there that have constant rotation in my “Anger Management” playlist.

Anthrax, my favorites are still the early years and the John Bush era. Can’t say I’ve listened much to anything released after him.
And Slayer I came to appreciate later in life…I always liked their music but the vocal style always turned me off. Less of their songs are in my regular rotation, but there are a few.

Took me a while to warm up to Slipknot too (but I always was a fan of Stone Sour). There’s a fair amount of it I still don’t really listen to, but there are a lot of their songs I needed to sit and listen to more carefully to hear the layers that come from so many musicians overlaid…when I’m trying to dig deep in a workout, Slipknot is definitely one of the bands in the queue (along with some Five Finger Death Punch).

I used to be able to say with confidence who my favorite artist was but I completely burnt myself out on them to the point where I don't even listen to them anymore.

I heard Pain Killer by Judas Priest at the tender age of 12 (45 now) and have been chasing that power metal feeling ever since.
Used to really like Bullet for my Valentine and this chat made me pull them up on spotify. Still pretty decent imo.

yes - I do agree with you there. I have some pretty varied tastes and it very much depends on the day and the mood.
more and more days seem to be a dumpster fire shit show, and I need ~170-180 BPM of hard, heavy, and angry to keep my composure through those

I can't answer the question about 1% being charged on your contributions, I suspect it would be if they went to the funds you turned over for management. I stopped adding to retirement funds three years ago, so I just don't know. I'm guessing how you approach that would depend on your age and goals.

I can say how it works for me. Our fiduciary (wealth manager) takes 1% of total worth for only what's in the account he manages. He doesn't account for savings, checking or physical assets.

I also think you can get a fiduciary for hourly or other rates to consult for retirement planning. I wish I'd have done that, and I think that would be the way to go when I was younger. I'm doing OK, but could be better. An example is a Roth IRA. We always contributed the max to regular IRAs to reduce taxes. 5K in a Roth IRA is tax free on earnings after five years, for you and your heirs. Based on the rule of seven, it would double every seven years even if you never made another contribution. If I'd known that I would have had one years ago, but it's too late for me.

For me it's totally hands free, I turned over all retirement accounts, 401Ks and IRAs, to his firm. They manage day to day activities and distributions.
We meet about once a quarter, more if I want to.

What I gain is a much more detailed management of my funds. I used to do what you're doing and it worked until I got close to retirement. Keep adding, work the index funds and stay the course.

The guy I have has a bucket system management approach since I've reached retirement.

Life bucket, guaranteed income such as pensions and social security. He doesn't mess with those, only factors them in to total income wanted or needed.

Two year bucket, conservative investments to provide income for the next two years.

Three year bucket, medium risk to provide income after the two year bucket.

Five year bucket, growth funds to provide lifetime income.

I get better, more detailed management from someone whose job it is to know the market and other trends. And whose income is directly related to my personal gain. After considerable research I believe a fiduciary is the way to go.

https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask...y is someone who,for their benefit, not yours.

Coincidentally, got this email this evening.

    Hi John,
First, we hope anyone in the path of the snow is staying dry and warm. We are all currently working from home until the roads can be safely traveled. If you need to reach us please shoot us an email or give Dave or Jon a call. To reach Dave dial 540-220-9282. To reach Jon, dial 540-940-5679.

On another note, here are a few words from Dave and Jon:

We do not react to economic or market events. As you know we use the bucket theory. Our purpose is to be in-line with your financial life plan and our system allows us to do so.

We are happy to report on another very successful year in our shared pursuit of your most valued lifetime financial goals. Our plan and portfolio continue to be driven by your financial life plan, not the prognostication around the economy or the market.

We are long-term, goal focused, plan-driven investors. Our core investment policy is to invest in broadly diversified portfolios of high-quality businesses.

We believe that the economy can’t be consistently forecast, nor the markets consistently timed. We believe that the only practical way to capture the long-term return of equities is to ride out sometimes significant but historically always temporary declines.
