I have a 2011 tundra crewmax Rock Warrior 5.7 with 90k miles on it. I've had it for about 2 years and haven't had any issues up until a few weeks ago.

Issue 1: About 3 weeks ago was driving home from work about 5 minutes into my drive and I heard a click and the 4 high and low lights started flashing on my dash and the abs light and traction control off lights came on and the truck won't shift into 4 hi or low. I pulled over to make sure everything was all right and found nothing. Truck was driving just fine, no noises and guages were all reading normal. Did some troubleshooting online and found a ton of different possibilities. Tried disconnecting the battery. I'm assuming it's a sensor.

Issue 2 (most pressing issue): I went to start my truck this morning and it just continually rolls over. Battery was full charge but I tried jumping just in case it was a little low and nothing. I notice when I turn the key the check engine and a/t oil temp light come on (not flashing) but I'm not sure if they Normally do that prior to start. I tried using spare key because someone said something about security system and out of the probably 20 times I've tried to roll it over I heard it almost start for a very brief second and nothing after that. Any feedback on either of these issues would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I want to say the alternator may be the culprit.

Thanks T-Rex, I didn't think about the alternator. Is there any way for me to verify that?

A little of this and a little of that.
Either this^^^ or take it to an auto parts store and they can test them for you.

    I’m not a mechanic but...

Even if the alternator is out, shouldn’t it still turn over with a jump?

... once it gets started? Or are you saying to bring the alternator in (after it’s pulled off the truck....)

A little of this and a little of that.

If I remember correctly the alternator has to be attached to the vehicle it is running on. I'd call them and ask. However, I don't believe it's your alternator. It's something else, I just don't know what.

The symptoms of the lights coming on and not shifting to 4hi or lo are the truck being in "limp" mode. Its what the computer does to allow you to keep running the truck to get it to a place to be worked on without letting itself be over-worked.
Is this truck a Flex Feul? There is a new ECM update recall that corrects a problem with an alcohol sensor that can cause starting problems.
Your problem most likely has nothing to do with the alt. as long as you still have batt power. Even if the alt. did die your truck should have run until it depleted the Battery.
You need to check the things that are vital to make fire. Air, fuel, and spark

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
If the truck turns over with sufficient power, then my guess, would be that the battery is fine and the alternator is fine.

I am betting you have a fault somewhere in the electrical. Could be the ECM has some solder that is cracked or a loose ground wire somewhere. Try lightly slapping the ECM with your palm and verify that all the wires are plugged in securely into the ECM.

You also might want to look around for loose ground wires or frayed wires "grounding themselves out".

If this is a Flex Fuel vehicle, those are known to have issues with the alcohol sensor.

Honestly this could also be the dreaded secondary air pump failure. I wouldn't jump to conclusions though.

And if it is a secondary air pump issue, your 2011 truck should be covered by the extended warranty Toyota put out because of the common failures. If you haven't got it fixed yet it might be worth talking to the dealership. And if you did figure it out, let us know what the problem was.

    1. Check for ignition spark.
    2. Check for fuel pressure.

My tundra has a master key (black) and valet key (grey). If you use the valet key it will eventually not even start the truck anymore. I had a basic key cut for keeping in case I needed another key made and lost all my master keys and it can unlock the front door. I tried starting my truck with that basic key that had no chip and it kept turning over but would not start. Just an idea.

put your key in. If the red light stays a blinky(security) your key lost its code. Happened to me. Try a different key if you got it.

Was kinda hoping to see a resolution to this one, or an update.

A bad ground can literally cause a ton of issues. Its something that most people can do themselves but is overlooked cause its not an actual mechanical component.

When a vehicle doesnt start its common to see ppl check, the battery post connection, starter, alternator, ect.... But forget to check the battery negative to body ground..

That reminds me, ive been meaning to scrap the paint off my ground connections. Eh... Ill probably continue to put off instead, though.

Check to see which codes are stored in the ECM (your local dealer or even AutoZone can do that). Post them here and I'll try to lead you in the right direction.
