Well, had to go to Duluth, GA this weekend and the sh$tbirds hit my truck overnight in the hotel parking lot. Took a Garmin and a little cash (less than $25) from the center console and my small emergency bag full of tools from rear seat floorboard. sh$tbirds strike.jpg

I live in Ga....very common even where I live even though its somewhat safe. I keep a loaded shotgun with rubber bullets just incase. I have seen someone check my door handles on my camera 3 times the past year and that's just me scanning through footage.

Why keep a shotgun with rubber bullets? If I'm going to shoot someone... it's definitely not to scare or harm them (temporary).... it's more of a permanent fix to the problem.

The wife took off the headrest the day prior when she was sleeping. I got a quote for $350 from Safelite and $299 from The Glass Doctor. The local Toyota dealer hasn't called me back yet. Anything I need to watch out for as far as replacement windows?

Prob cause its against the law in any state to use deadly force to protect property.Gonna be hard in court to explain how someone stealing something from your truck was life threatening. But yes rubber bullets are a little silly. If I need a gun I want the real thing

Not against the law in Texas. Though most people wouldn't use deadly force to prevent the theft of property, it is legal to use deadly force in Texas to prevent theft of property.

I stand corrected. I just dove into TX law and I feel with a good lawyer you would stay out of jail. It does mention protection of property. Hopefully the family doesn’t sue. I think you are right about most not useing deadly force as well. I mean let’s be real take a life for a car? Taking a life will change you forever and I don’t think a vehicle is worth that change.

I was going to say it's DEFINITELY not illegal to use deadly force in every state to protect your property..........not today Satan!

This is definitely about to turn political I'm sure... but my grandfather, my dad and I all served in the military and gave up enough of our time to protect our country, our family and ourselves... sadly we are beginning to see people/businesses shunned or put down for not following this "New age" belief. I'm not going to let some turd take even .02 cents from me without it costing them an arm and a leg literally. To each their own in their beliefs.... as it should be, but fuck looking the other way when something bad happens...... probably a good time for the mods to shut this one down. You gentlemen have a good night and for now..... let's all try to keep freedom legal for now.... until we have to do so again by force later.

I agree, you would most likely be spending time in prison for killing someone breaking into your vehicle. Now if they threatened your life well.....that's another story:D

You might call a wrecking yard close to you. I think I paid 200 for an entire door with glass, stole the glass and put it in my existingdoor, and then sold the door for 200 bucks on Craigslist. It’s a couple easy to access screws once you pull the easy to remove door panel.

I've read on here that it's best to get OEM glass. Others will be of noticeably lesser quality/wavy.:notsure:

Wow, take a life for a Garmin, a few bucks and some tools. Personally I would rather they take the stuff rather than me living with the memory of watching someone die in front of me by my hand.

I'd take that over the cats, pain in the ass....... I'd vote for OEM glass too... After a wreck on my Celica the passenger side window was replaced and it looked weird when the sun would hit it at certain angles.. Dozens of circles and hexagons all down the window... made it very annoying with sunglasses as it was all you could see... Just my take on this...

They're less likely to contest the actions you took if you use real bullets.

Like I said, few people I know would shoot someone who was stealing a bike. That includes me. The law also states it is justified under the conditions that you don't think the thief could be stopped any other way, or that there would be no chance of recovery. So there ARE conditions.
As far as being sued, Texas also has a law against facing a civil lawsuit by the perp's family if the shoot was determined to be justified. They can't sue me if I shoot to stop the threat (or the steal, in that case) and the shoot is determined to be justified.
When you get down to it, I live in the country. My truck is garaged, in a separate building over 30 yards from my house. If I were to walk into the garage and find someone in the truck (it's never locked there), I'd shoot him on the spot. I keep a 9mm in the console. So I'd definitely consider that to be an imminent threat.

EDIT ..... Just read what I said here and it might not make much sense.....I mean about the 9mm in the console. I'd shoot the SOB with the .45 that I ALWAYS carry even while walking around on my own property. He'd be an imminent threat because he has access to that 9mm in the console.

    Yes... but when
Well... if I agreed with anything that third world countries do, it's to cut off the hand that steals.... eventually it's hard to steal if you keep doing it. Our countries justice system isn't more than a slap on the wrist. Steal something (IF they get caught) they'll go watch TV, eat free food and relax till they get out..... not much of a punishment. If our slogan was Fuck around, find out.... we probably wouldn't have a many problems.

Had my truck broken into last year in Dallas. Rear driver window on my crew max. Be happy they didn’t take a ton of stuff, they got my power tools, laptop, hard drives, camera, and supplements for some reason.

I had my glass replaced by safelite. Replacement glass is good quality, there’s no discernible waves or defects. The one thing I will stress is to make sure you get every piece of broken glass out of the door, or else you’ll be hearing it rattle in your door forever.
