BTW, shows you what an outstanding guy Nick is, not only has he put together a superb kit, he is good person by passing along his discount to those of us who ordered kits.

    THANK YOU Nick !

This will probably get deleted but in my opinion you are miles ahead ordering the whole kit for $790. I don't know how he making any money.

No shit, I can't put it together for $790 and you include custom bracket. I can make brackets, pull out grinder, get 1/8" sheet metal, measure, cut, remove edges, paint, drill, two hours later and a mess my bracket is done lol. If you want to do the cooler its a no brainer to order the $790 set up.

Make sure you give us a warning before you raise prices, that way I can get my order in. I really don't think I need it but it is so convenient in the kit its pretty simple

I’m finally going to install my cooler this weekend but still need 2 items.
First what size transmission oil hose do I need? I know I need at least 7ft but what size is correct and any recommendations on what brand to buy?
Second I need the High Temp Spiral Hose Protection but I’m not sure what it is or where it goes when installing this? I do not see it in any of the pictures.
I should have just purchased the complete kit, would have been the smart thing to do.

Personally I would buy the Toyota hard lines that go from the thermostat to the front. The hose would run close to hot parts and just would be a pain to secure rubber hose and protect it from heat.

    Ditto this.

I pieced my kit together and used the factory hard lines, hose clamps and insulated rubber hoses at the T-stat.

Having everything pre-bent and routed properly was well worth the expense. Everything fits and functions as OEM designed it.

I have the toyota hard lines. You still need hose to go from those to the cooler.

Most aftermarket coolers come with enough hose to go from the pipes to the cooler.

I seen examples where guys ran hoses from thermostat to trans cooler zip tied to condenser. My luck when driving back from New Mexico to Houston at 3:00am a line would rub, kink, cooler zip tie fail and the savings would be rapidly be loss and more than likely in the end cost 3 times more than the "factory" style kit offered here with a mounting plate, hard lines, fastners, not to mention the effort to design, assemble and give directions.

I'm doing the exact kit listed here I just purchased the parts myself. I'm using the same bracket and cooler, I just do not have the hose or the heat protector yet and just wanted to know the size. I was not looking for a bunch of answers telling me not to use hose to connect it. By the way the factor parts still use hose to connect the hard lines to the thermostat.

    Just FYI...
I'm reasonably certain that the factory uses 10mm lines/hose and all the aftermarket stuff is 3/8".
I found it a bit difficult to push the 3/8" hose on to the 10mm hard lines and it's a pretty tight area to get your paws in.
I appreciated the simplicity of the factory sprung "snap" style hose clamps and factory formed hose/lines in this area.

    Just food for thought.

Thank you. I had read that it was hard to push the hose onto the hard lines. I was wondering if you could put them on the hard lines first and then fish it up thru the front as you install the hard lines.
Any info on the heat protector listed in the parts list for the kit?

The stuff on the factory formed lines is part of the hose... but you can buy braided heat sleeve off Amazon if needed.

This stuff should work: (I ordered this but never used it since the OEM hoses already had heat protection)

To make pushing the hose onto the hardlines easier I removed the skidplate, also put a little lube on them.

I think it was between $300-$400? I might have gotten a better price than what others will get because I was the first one who wanted one. I think they are going to offer the kit as an option for people who buy new Tundras.

I received my kit and NO its not OEM quality. It is far superior, no OEM would use all stainless hardware with nylocknuts. No OEM would have supplied a powder coated bracket which supports a cooler with a thermal duty cycle that is impossible to overload with a Tundra transmission. Toyota can stick with appearance packages, and running boards, Toyota transmission cooler design would be a set backwards from this set up. It is so Fking nice for once to get something more than you expect. I guess the ground strap supplied sums it up, excessively designed. It could be used to ground the entire vehicle in fact my money on its heaver gauge then what the vehicle is grounded with. Great Job!!!!!

install went well. Pan temps stay at 188.5. Torque converter jumps but levels out. I love it. I have a question. When checking transmission fluid do you level chassis or is the car on level ground. I put in 1.5 quarts but got out .75quarts. When I put level on transmission 6" magnetic it was level on level concrete, however if i use 4 foot level the chassis is not on concrete. I cant believe Toyota would expect techs to block wheels on a lift while they are checking trans fluid. The difference is probably 3/8 quart. Oh the skid plate bolts are 12mm not 13 mm. Bigest PIA was figuring out clamps, i squeezed sideways, twisted, in end you just squeeze like you would if taking them off, lol.

Did some more research on fill techniques. One individual said vehicle should be level to within 1 degree. So 144" wheel base would be 2.5" from front tire to rear of acceptable un-level. Over 4 foot level that is .83". The interpretation is the vehicle is setting on its wheels. Either way level frame or parked on level concrete which is level you are within spec.

When I installed my kit and did the level check, would say I also ended up with about the same scenario that you did. Initially was concerned but did a recheck and that indicated the level was correct.

Since the check plug is about center front to rear, but off to one side I would say having the pan level side to side would be more important.

Glad everything went well. From what I notice, you should only need 1-quart of ATF to fill the cooler and lines, however, having an extra .5 quarts or so will ensure your visually see ATF coming out of the pan. This provides a clear distinction between the stream and trickle. I have the RCI skid plate and it uses the 13mm head bolts. Thanks for the heads up, ill update the instructions.

When the checking the transmission level the truck is placed on level ground. The transmission has a downward angle so the level would be off.
