Can a non Toyota mechanic troubleshoot a no start situation effectively (efficiently)?
I'd hate to pay high dollar for towing and a guessing mechanic. Yes I know some I trust but not sure about the sensor issue I likely have. Thank you guys...

What seems to be the problem which needs fixing? Year of Tundra? Symptoms?

Crank but no start can be hundreds of things on modern engines. You have to help us out with more descriptions. Does it always happen or only after engine is warm? Does it seem to sputter? Does it sound different at all from a normal start? Any work done recently? It is really difficult to diagnose a car remotely. Impossible with no information.

Any reputable mechanic can diagnose it and repair it. Troubleshooting common problems between makes is very similar and they should have service manuals to refer to for any information they might need.

Not necessarily true, especially the more current the vehicle is. Different manufacturers look at different sensors when starting, not to mention some information is proprietary and can't be viewed even with an expensive scan tool like a snap on. On older vehicles absolutely though. A 2003 should be pretty true to that statement though.

    '00 4.7 that's why I just made a generic statement.

Regarding towing, you could probbaly rent a U-haul Truck, and car dolly for less than that.

Its been years since I've rented one so...

Hell, a tow on a flat bed in town here is $75. I'd start by pulling codes. That's a wealth of info, and a cheapo Bosch reader like mine is about fiddy bucks.

There is no codes. Yes a tiny sputter, but thats it, never starts. I know about the sensors involved, I hope they can plug in and see all the sensors and see which is bad.

If theres no codes you may have to get it to a shop to do a scan. Their's can read a lot more. Any reputable shop in your area can handle that.

You think it was outta gas? It's not a common problem with the fuel guage, but anything can happen.

I don't think it was but that's the way it acted, last resort I added gas and it started. I went and filled it up and the gauge acts like it always has. It doesn't enter my mind to do that if the gauge says there is gas in it.

I recently worked on a friends car for like 2 hours for a no start. When I pulled the fuel hose off and cranked it to see if it was getting any gas nothing came out. Then it struck me that I never confirmed there was gas in it. Fuel gauge was wrong. It's always the simplest things you overlook.

It happens more frequently than you would think... Hopefully that was it.

Just keep a record of your fill ups and monitor the gauge.

If your guage is off and you don't wanna replace the sender yet, just reset the trip guage when you fill up and fill up at 280 miles to be safe.
