Tundra Owners Report Defect on Faux Tinted Chrome

Yea, mine's under warranty as well. When were yours replaced? Have you had any problems with your second go 'round?

 

Dealership denied mine after saying it was going to be covered even though I have the ECP. Said its considered trim and toyota does not cover trim at all since its considered a wear item.

My truck has 25,000 km or 15,000 miles.

Mine is peeled worse then any of the photos posted here.

I see two sides to it, if it was rock chipped to death sure, i see trim as wear, but chrome flaking off on an essentially new truck. That's just a defect and should be covered. Like the frame is not covered on ECP. So if it develops a hairline crack from a bad weld or anything. You are shit out of luck.

Agreed. And my side moldings are basically disintegrating. I am really liking my truck, but this is not a good look for Toyota.

 

Like that's not rock chips. That's just shitty material. Its even flaking off up were it meets the upper grill surround. You cant even get a rock chip there.

It seems like it happened when it sees big swing in temps (IE getting a car wash in the winter) since the tint is not bonded to the chrome.

 

I believe what's happening is a rock chip creates a small fracture in the smoke-tint, then water gets in and freezes, then it's game over from there as that will just spread and spread.

 

Which would mean the tint is not bonded to the chrome at all.

They should have just painted it gloss black like the flares.

 

There is a bonding issue on the side molding. 3 out of four of mine so far.
