I am sure this question has been asked, however I am wondering what folks are upgrading their dash speakers to from the stock units? v I have the center speaker and both sides so looking for upgrade suggestions.

    thanks

Fuel delete mod Cup holder upgrade
    I'm curious about this too.

I'm not so sure it would be worth upgrading the center, my understanding its were most of the voice and audio cues are pushed from.

Nope. The mounting bolts would hit first. Haven’t had any problems at all.

Thank you for the pics. It's strange why crutchfield says these won't fit those locations. Is your stereo Non-JBL?

I have seen other try to put 3.5" in there and they can't get both bolts to work as the speaker is too big. For example-[IMG]

I read on here some people can get these Kenwoods to fit and others cannot. My truck started life as a Non-JBL with Nav but everything except speaker wire has been replaced. I took the pics after dark and posted them from my phone and am now on my computer - holy crap its dusty in there. that's what happens only getting 4" of rain last year. I need to go dust off my dash...

ETA looks like you might be able to notch out the mounting plate towards the speaker on both side enough to get the bolts in? You see how close my bolts are to the cone. I did not have to modify the mount on the Kenwood speakers.

same here. I have the Infinity Kappa tweeters speakers and had to remove the covers. now way they would fit with covers on.
    They are dome shaped.

Guys keep in mind that if you have a speaker that is greater than 1-1/2" top mounted, that speaker will hit the grille when playing loud. Sure you can grind the inside of the grille, but you should test and measure before you ruin your driver.

This was the info I was looking for. Seems most except for the Kenwoods seem to have too much speaker above the mounting surface.

I will measure the distance and post it so that everyone knows before buying speakers.

I have Audiofrog GB25s and will run no other. It is too tall by 5/16" to clear the grille and HVAC Duct. But I did surgery in the name of Car Audio.

Ok guys you have 1-1/2" from the top of the HVAC Duct to the top of the steel Nut Plates. And 3/8" from the top of the Nut Plates to the bottom of the OEM Dash Grille. This does not include the Mount, Foam Ring, or the Driver. If the Driver's Excursion is high, you will ruin your speakers. Besides it would sound like crap.

DC rear fold down seats, decals removed, blacked out badges, complete stereo, ceramic coating, ToyTec Boss 3/1.5, RidgeGrappler 305/70r17, blacked out rock rings and center caps, smoked tail lights, BAMUFFLER Alpharex Pro headlights, TRD PRO Sequoia Grille, DAPtune
    These sound nice, and fit.

I have the NVX 3.5" coaxs that use a similar tweeter in my Rav4. They sound really nice. Smooth highs. NVX is a great budget speaker.

One thing with these tweeters-you need a crossover or bass blocker or you will blow them quickly. They do not come with any.

You can also make your own brackets with masonite but these adapters make it easier.

Now I'm confused about the GB25s, as this other member installed his without any mods in the same model year. I'd like to do these at some point, but not if it requires surgery.

I put in some 3.5" infinities (same as pictured above). I had to do a little work with the Dremel to get them to fit, but they fit and sound great. I did have kickers in there, but they didn't sound very good compared to the other speaker upgrades in the doors. I did keep one to upgrade the center dash speaker.

Do you find them too bright? Too much treble as it reflects off the glass?

That is exactly what I thought of the kickers. Almost ear piercing even at moderate volume. The infinity speakers have better mid range. They get a little bright when the volume is very high, but at that point all the speakers are starting to show their weakness. I have the Infinity in the dash, Focal in the front doors, JL audio in the back doors, and two 10" infinity subs behind the back seats (crewmax). I have a Kenwood Excelon amp powering everything. If I had to do it again I would get Focal for the back as well. Much better speakers. I didn't know which was better at the time of purchase from Crutchfield so I got a pair of each. I also upgraded to the Kenwood Excelon DNX995S head unit. It was a previous year model so I got it at a really good price. I also lined all the doors with matting. That helped out more than I thought it would.

Thanks. That made me realize that I was talking about the GS25, not the GB25. I guess I was more confused than I thought.
