I need to see the tundra unstick itself with crawl control.

Does new tundra crawl work like tacoma does even if the tundra crawl control is much smoother and doesn't sound like its tearing the front end out of the truck??

I stack it deep and sell it cheap

Tundra might be too heavy to have the same effect the tacoma crawl has:notsure:

Crawl Control has been working well with the LandCruisers as well as the Lexus LX and GX platforms but as Fo Lo stated, weight is always an issue off-road. We will have to wait and see.

If it will unstick itself it might be worth it but the off road cruise control part doesent make sense to me. I'm interested to see what it's going to cost to get into it on a double cab SR5 4x4 or if that's even possible...

If your asking will the tundra be able to use crawl in reverse down hill like in this video? Yes.

No I want to know if it will unstick itself when its buried to the frame stuck in sand or mud like my tacoma would do

That truck crawled out before it was buried to the frame.

So, The part of the off-road package that is worth the price is multi-terrain select and the camera system. With MTS, you can choose the type terrain and not have A-Trac chop throttle. When I go off-road in my GX, as soon as I go into low range, I select "Loose Rock and Dirt" with no throttle chop. Same with "Mud and Sand". "Rock" mode will mediate throttle and power redistribution kicks in just off idle. Haven't used "Moguls".

In theory, it will. Weight and physics will have and influence.

Actually, I believe it may be separate on the Tundra requiring the 14" Infotainment package. With Lexus, it is included with the Off-road package.

Crawl control comes back with the 2022 Tundra. It was not available for my 2021. limited TRD Offroad 4x4

I just hope it's not so smooth that it won't dig itself out of a hole. It may not have the same effect because it doesn't have the brake actuated chatter like tacoma.

Crawl control is not quite as loud on my GX as it is on the Tacos as it falls just short of sounding like a dryer full of dildos, but I believe they have changed the system quite a bit across the higher end product line. It is supposed to be the same as the 22 Land Cruiser and 23 Lexus LX short of having Turn Assist.

Ok so it seems to me that the wheels are electronically and individually monitored so that they can each provide only the slightest movement needed per wheel, and this gives the tires just enough spin to push dirt in front of the tire to down below, building up dirt beneath for lift and traction while removing dirt in front of the tire, which is impeding it. Changes the angle on the way out of the hole while providing substrate beneath the tire. So if this is the case, and I get it’s not going to be as easy, but why wouldn’t this work for Tundras?

I can clearly have a complete misunderstanding of how it works, I’m no off roader or mechanic or Toyota specialist, just wondering based off what the vid shows. A Tundra could do similarly, and if you have seriously knobby tires I feel like displacing the sand in front of the tires to below them may even be easier than what can be achieved from smaller tread on smaller Tacoma tires. Interested to hear what I got right and more importantly what I got wrong.

While what you are perceiving to be the way it works is correct, it is a result of the system detecting slip and trying to transfer traction to other wheels using the ABS brakes system and throttle modulations. It works the same regardless the environment and in mud, there is no buildup of material under the tires.
Here is a video of my GX trying to climb a small transition in very slick and shallow mud. I had just installed Crawl Control and this was my first test. (Took me a minute to engage it) I have seen many vehicles stuck in this spot including 4x4s with lockers and AT tires. Mud tires seem to climb it fairly easily with wheel speed. I had Toyo OC ATIIIs with less than 2k on them. The camera is tilted right a bit but this is about a 2.5" in 10" grade.

Well that certainly makes sense, and especially in mud as you mentioned would be where weight really comes into play I suppose. And really most of the work appears to be that it detects slippage long before our feet can feel in the pedal, so it feathers the gas incrementally and quickly and reacts better than we can? Well I’d like to have it on my 17 but if possible would just be another absurdly expensive mod I cannot afford.

I have to wonder if you would have had the same results by going really slow with the pedal and not flooring it like you did in 4x4.

And you just hit on the biggest problem in dealing with ATrac or any traction control system, you have to generate wheel speed differential to get it to engage. I definitely didn't floor it. I'm pretty sure I didn't hit 1500rpm. Any slower would not get ATrac to turn all 4 wheels. (I was in normal hi full time 4wd mode without center diff locked "CDL" switched to 4 low to engage crawl, no CDL and no MTS used at all)
    Edited to add last (sentence)

That's where MTS comes into play. Some modes will compensate for wheel slip just off idle. Loose Rock and Dirt, Mogul, and Rock modes for example.

Good question. You can in my GX as they are separate operations albeit I have not vetted it out. With the GX, the Crawl control installation just required that I changed the center console switch/module combo. Adding MTS, I had to change the driver control module under the dash. CC requires 4lo so I can select LR&D, Mogul, or Rock with Crawl. Again, I have not tested for individual characteristics.

The only mode I've had in my pickups up to this point is tow mode. Looks like you have to turn off crawl to use mts in the tacoma. I didnt even realize I had that button on my old tacoma lol I'm guessing crawl is one mts setting above rock.

Interesting questions. Watching the first drive vids on the Toyota course Crawl seems effective. Quiet instead of the previous system (and my ATRAC).

The concept is great and proven effective on the Tacoma, Land Cruiser, GX, Land Rover. Something I like about the system is there is much less trail damage compared to being in plain old 4LO. I believe Toyota said Crawl works in 4HI also, or was that the rear locker works in 4HI?
