I have searched for this over and over and have not found the info I was looking for so finally decided to post the question. I guess this is a lift and tire question so I just posted in here, mods please move if needed.

I have a 2014 Crewmax TSS 4x4 and was looking to do some mods to it (bumpers, lift and tires).

I am looking at the 5 inch Zone lift, or a 3 inch coil over lift, preferably the 5 inch Zone.

I currently have the Black 20 inch TSS wheels. I have found out they are 20x9 with a +50 offset.

While I was researching about the Zone 5 inch kit, I was reading that it says you CANNOT use your factory wheels anymore with this lift kit?

    Is this true?

My GOAL was to do DV8 bumpers front and rear, 35x12.5's tires (or as close as possible) and either a 3 inch coil over lift or a 5 inch Zone lift.

I was hoping NOT to have to get new wheels as a way to save money, and also I already like the look of these TSS wheels.

    Anybody know about this?

    Thanks!

It maybe the factory offset on the wheels my be the problem but some other people may chime in soon. You should call the lift manufacturer and let them know about the bumper it may work if there is more room there idk.

Yes, I was hoping the bumper would help with giving some extra space.

I had heard also that it might have to do with backspacing? I have no idea about that, but had heard (maybe in a video or post) that one of the problems might have been the backspacing on the OEM wheels?

You would need wheel spacers to run a 12.5” tire. I have 11.5” tires and they are as close to the upper control arm as I would want to get.

Are you running a 35x11.5 with the Black TSS 20'' wheels?

Are you running a lift with the TSS wheels?

I am not committed to a 35x12.5, just trying to get close. I like the look of the larger/taller tire, but don't really care how wide it is.

If your saying that 11.5'' is as wide as I wanna get, should I look in the 275/65r20 or 295/60r20 options?

I am mainly trying to figure out if I can get the 5'' Zone lift and still run these 20'' Black TSS wheels...

I am running stock TSS black wheels, the 285/65/20 BFG K02s that are 34.6" x 11.5" on a Bilstein 6112/5100 3"/1" lift. I also had to roll the edge of the skid plate. With 35x12.5 you will need spacers or offset, body chop mod, and probably inner fender mod.

Thank you for that pic, that is perfect showing the space!

I would rather go with a little smaller/thinner tire than have to do a TON of modifications to fit a tiny bit larger one.

I wouldn't mind a couple modifications, but 35x12.5 is not a magic number for me.

I don’t have personal experience but to me it looks like the Zone 5” uses a new spindle and it looks like that spindle has a hump in it going outboard which is why I believe they say not to use stock wheels. Presumably, the stock wheels sit too far in and would contact that spindle.

Ok perfect, this is what I was wondering, if there was something that would get physically installed to stop the wheels from working at all, or if they were just "suggesting" new wheels for the fun of it.

That kinda pushes me toward doing something more in the 3'' coil over lift area and keeping the wheels I have.

I saw the 5'' Zone was about $1400 so if I am only going 3'' I hope I can save some $$

    That looks awesome!

I was looking to go through Discount Tire and have heard good things about the Milestar Patagonia M/T's, so I am looking at sizes in those (doesn't hurt they are quiet a bit lower priced than others).

I keep going back and forth on lifts thought between 3'' coilover and 5'' Zone. The having to get new wheels thing was kind of a deal breaker for the 5'' Zone though, that's why I was wanting to confirm that...

Sometimes you gotta bide your time and get what you want. Might end up doing it anyway and wasting the money on the 3".

    Very well said.

I kinda didn't wanna have to hassle with selling the old wheels and getting the new ones.

If I did, I think I would go with a 17'' or 18'' wheel to get a little more tire profile...

But I guess that opens up a whole new can of worms huh

You could always get a pair of 1.25” wheel spacers for ~$100. That way you could go with the 5” lift, get the larger tires now, and swap over to new wheels (and remove the spacers) later on down the line.
Don’t forget, we have Carcare1 no interest financing at Discount Tire. You could get the wheels and tires and, depending on the purchase price, have anywhere from 6-12 months no interest financing.
Just throwing that out there.

    THANK YOU!

I have always heard people talk bad about wheel spacers. I know nothing about them.

Would getting the wheel spacers solve my problem I would have with the 5'' lift and running the factory wheels?

The only problem with wheel spacers, aside from poor quality, comes from failing to install and maintain them properly. Spidertrax and Bora are 2 wheel spacer manufacturers that are known for good quality.

Wheel spacers are aluminum just like your wheels. Aluminum is soft. Aluminum breaks in. When you install wheel spacers you need to re-torque them a few times within the first few hundred miles. Failure to do that can cause the wheel spacer to loosen up and come off of the hub.

I’ve had 1.5” wheel spacers on my rear axle for 5 years now and have not had any issues. If you can’t tell, I’ve put this truck through hell and back. If wheel spacers were bad I would have had an issue by now.

Like I said earlier: I have no first hand experience with the zone 5” lift but if my theory is correct then a set of wheel spacers should get you going for now without new wheels. Call Zone first and verify that before you go taking my word for it and ordering something that might not work.
If you have any other questions I’d be happy to help.

You probably need wheel spacers. The tss wheel has a +50 offset so you will need to push the wheel out. I had a neighbor with the zone lift. It looked great and I almost settled on it. But decided against it. I couldn't bring myself to to cut the frame.

What was your hesitation about cutting the frame?

Known long term issues or just didn't want to?

There probably wouldn't have been any long term issue with it as long as it was done right. I decided on performance over looks.

Elka all the way around, Alcan leafs, coachbuilder shackles and light racing ucas. Very happy with the ride and I can still fit under my 8ft garage opening.

Before that I had fat Bob's coilovers. They weren't the best, but worked.

If I decide to go with the 3” lift, the Fat Bobs Garage coil overs are one of the ones I am looking at now.
