Truck built but not shipped...

Hi Everyone! New member here I just made the switch from a Tacoma and looking for your advice or guidance.

I put down a deposit for a 2021 Crewmax OF in mid Nov for a truck that was going to be build mid Dec and then shipped right before Christmas. Christmas came and went and it was supposed to arrive right before the first of the year which was fine. The dealership was pushing for me to finalize the paperwork and assured me that the truck would arrive in the next day or two. I signed all the docs on 1/1 and they keep telling me the same thing that the truck will come in the next day or so but its been two weeks.

Is there another way that I can check myself where the truck is? Also I paid my first month with no truck which is now getting frustrating because the month is half done. I keep hounding the dealership but they keep telling me that the truck will be here soon and thats all the info they have so I'm not sure what I can do here.

 

if it was me and the dealership was pushing for finalization of paperwork with no results i would return the favour and be pushing on them to deliver what they promised. my assumption would be that it is caught up in the backlog on the billions of deliveries that were delayed over the past months but they should have considered that if it was indeed the issue.

 

Same here, no way in hell I'd pay a dime for something until delivered. Good luck OP

 

Thanks everyone man I hope I didnt blow it by signing and paying already. I'm going to call them again today and see if I can talk to the fleet manager to find out exactly where the truck is and what the issue is

They better give you a loaner until yours arrives or start paying your payments until it does.

I would call a lawyer... I know when purchasing a vehicle from a dealership in NJ you have to signed a form with the exact mileage and it basically says the vehicle is in your possession. Therefore removing any responsibility from the dealer.

 

Did the dealership mention anything about a Nigerian prince?

 

LOL getting roasted rightfully so. I just called and got the VIN and its not going to arrive until Feb 2-4th!! The dealership said its been shipped from TX and is sitting in Los Angeles waiting to be shipped to Utah....unreal. Looks like I might have to be contacting a lawyer

 

There is no reason they shouldn't have you in a demo truck at the least, while you await the arrival of your truck.

They should also be offering your some nice dealer installed upgrades to take the sting out of the wait as well.

 

My experience was very similar. Truck was bought and was supposed to be in the next day. This went on for 2 and a half weeks. Had to get the district manager involved. He called the port to find out that it was held on a ticket for a scratch repair on the fuel door. A sales manager does not know the shipping status of a vehicle. That is the inventory managers job and every dealership has one.

 

Did they do anything to remedy it?

 

If you are with Toyota Credit and you made the first payment without a vehicle, you can contact them and raise this issue.

 

The port verified that it was repaired so the DM told them to expedite it.

Go back to the dealer and get your payment back. I could see the down payment being ernest money but no paperwork should have officially been signed until the truck was in your posession. I too had to wait for my 2020 for a couple weeks but didn't sign anything until the truck arrived, went through inspection and ready to be driven off.

 

If the money you spent was your first payment not a deposit, that's crazy on their part. You should be driving the truck if you are paying for it. They should be bending over backwards to make you happy at this point, not making you do all the work.

If I were in your shoes, I would write on a big poster board, about how you purchased a truck last year and that (insert dealership name) has not delivered and march back and forth in front of their driveway. I bet you would not be out there more than 5 minutes before they had you in a nice loaner. What a bunch of AHoles...... Politicians, lawyers and car dealers.... Would not want to be in their shoes on judgement day.

 

You better be driving the baddest vehicle on the lot! Lesson learned. Never sign until you take delivery. About $500 deposit is all they need.

 

I ordered mine in September 26th and it arrived December 10th. I also had to put down a refundable deposit to order the truck, but the dealer kept me informed on the build, shipping, and delivery date. Someone else posted this earlier, but definitely get the VIN for the dealer and look it up on this site:

I'm not sure. I leased mine and that's who it's through. My cousin is a tech and he said they switched but i'm not sure if that's for purchases AND leases or just leases.

There is no way you should sign any financial paperwork until delivery of the vehicle, and inspection/approval. I hope you realize that they did this for end of month/year numbers, and you should contact corporate immediately and report this shark infested dealership. That is ridiculous! You are paying for a truck you don't have!!! Wow, I thought I heard some dirty dealership stories but this is tops!
They took your money last year, promised your truck, last year, and lied about everything! Scumbags.

 

If you haven't, you should make sure and leave a Google Review on what they did and their continued lack of follow through. I know this sounds petty, but people need to know when dealers are this shady and they tend to be motivated by the reviews. Be factual and concise, then after they make it right, amend it and leave the original review to warn others.

 

Maybe for some auto makers, but Toyota is full steam ahead and has been for a while.
