First full day off since September (thank the Lord I have had a stable income during the pandemic), so I decided to take advantage of the weather and give a thorough washing. Broke out the pressure washer and foam cannon and went to work. Gave it a through bath and while drying I noticed oxidation rust spots literally all over the truck. They’re everywhere. Small rust spots and not noticeable unless you were right up on it, but troubling nonetheless. I am attaching pictures but not sure you’ll be able to see them. Anyone have any good ideas on how to remove them? Thanks I’m advance.

It’s hard to tell if it’s on the surface or underneath the paint from the pictures alone. I would schedule an appointment with the dealership if it’s underneath. They were excellent with my 4Runner when it needed to be repainted in several areas.

I have none of those spots on my 2020 cement...

x2 on trying IronX or a similar iron contaminant removal, hopefully it's on the surface. Won't work if it isn't.

Clay bar or a mild abrasive cleaner wax. When I lived in Midwest all our vehicles had that. Clay bar it or if you want to show vehicle love then use Mcguires cleaner wax in the squeeze bottle not the paste and do small circles. Fingers and arms will hurt but it will remove it.

It has to be rail rust from the sounds of it - just strange that I just noticed it as I have had the truck since July 2019.

I ordered some Iron-X. I hope that takes care of it. If I am hearing correctly, I will need to immediately clean and wax after using the iron x. Will have to wait for a nice day and make sure I have enough time to complete the job in one sitting.

Have you drug your finger nail across it to see if it's above or below the paint surface?

If its above, I would wash first, then iron x. Then wash again. If you're feeling froggy, tar x, wash again. Clay bar and wash again. Then a sealant of your choice.

If its below, rock chips, you're looking at touch up paint.

While IronX and clay will likely remove it, I worry a little that it may exacerbate it long term if it’s not just rail dust. I’d email Carpro first with the pics and get their opinion.

Clay bar will remove them. Just did my truck last week and found many of these spots, I blame it on winter salts/etc. Wet it and clay bar.

I know a lot of people like the mitts....I'm not a fan. I think I just prefer the traditional feel of clay, and I like to see what is actually coming off the paint. Griots Garage Detailing Clay is on the mild side, and would work very well for you. If you want to combine the claying/iron removal steps, you can get a product like DoDo Juice Supernatural Ferro Lube. For straight claying, I like Griots Speed Shine

I emailed Corey at carpro; what a nice guy. I ordered the iron x and used it today. Worked like a charm and took the rust spots off in minutes. I washed the truck, sprayed on the iron x, started seeing purple spots everywhere I sprayed, wiped them off and sprayed of the excess. Very happy with the product and customer service. Thanks all for the suggestions

Glad the IronX worked for you. Carpro stuff is fantastic. That is the difficult part about owning a light colored vehicle is when you get it clean, those buggers show up.

For everyone suggesting clay bar to remove them, while you are correct, this is a more abrasive step. Using the chemical method (IronX or similar) you hardly have to touch the vehicle, therefore less potential scratches.

I try to subscribe to the clay bar before you polish mentality. That way, even though you are using a lubricant to clay bar, any scratches you may create, will come out with the polishing.

What part of MoCo are you in? My office is off E. Gude and I have similar spots in my paint. Figured it came from the industrial facilities around here. Clay bar pulled them out. Will have to try the IronX.

    Not sure at this point.
Can vouch for this; do not use clay bar before you use Iron-X or Chemical Guys De-Con. You'll create micro scratches on your clear coat and it's going to bug you. Ask me how I know.

I sharpened the mower blades with the truck sitting close, within ten feet. Sparks everywhere. Ended up with spots like that from small pieces of metal that landed on the hood. They polish out. I learned my lesson. I don't like making extra work for myself.
