    Hi all,

Does anyone have recommendations for finding a used truck cap? I’ve been checking Craigslist every day. There’s lots of caps available, but none that match an 05 double cab Tundra.

Will other 6.5’ caps work? Has anyone else had luck finding a used canopy?

    Thanks for sharing your experience.

Welcome Tim. I can tell you I have an access cab and the used canopy I bought was made for a double cab. It not an exact fit but you can only tell from the inside. You might be able to make an access cab canopy work. I found mine on craigslist a few years ago but I had to drive about 4 hours to get it. I would also suggest checking Facebook marketplace as it seems a lot more people are transitioning to that over Craigslist.

Not sure where you are from, and it's a long shot . . . but, some of the camper shell dealers here in CA have used ones for sale. They told me some people take them off before selling their truck, as it often doesn't add much re-sale value I've never heard that, but that's what the joker at the local camper shop told me. You can look at 'Offer-Up' . . . but that has a reputation for being 'scam central', so be careful.

Check local salvage yards, you occasionally will run into them there.

These are all helpful suggestions. I didn't know about the similarity in dimension between access cab and double cab. Thanks a lot!

I'm in NW Oregon. I hadn't thought about salvage yards or car-part.com I'm definitely going to look into that. I have checked all our canopy shops for used canopies, but have yet to find a canopy for a Tundra.

I have seen SO MANY canopies from Chevy and Ford trucks with 6.5' beds. Does anyone know if there is a year Chevy or Ford that might fit a first gen Tundra?

Just hold out for the right one . . . you'll find it. My buddy got inpatient and bought some mis-matched canopy for his Tacoma . . . it looked so bad we nick-named it 'The Jalopy Top'! He had to drill gate-hasps on the outside and put padlocks on it . . . friggin hilarious!!! We said, 'Why didn't you use the dial-combination locks we used on our lockers in high-school then you wouldn't need a key'!!!!! LOL !!!! He got so pissed at us that he finally sold the whole rig!!! . . . we said, "I bet your neighbors are a lot happier"!!!

I've heard that T100 toppers fit 1st one Tundras as well.

If you find one that's not too far from you it might be worth trying. I would imagine the sellers wouldn't mind helping you test fit it. Worst case you waste a bit of time.
