Picking up my Pro tomorrow and need a Tri-Fold cover for it. Anyone have good luck with a particular brand?
    I currently have a Bakflip MX-4 and it’s nice but it’s about 90% watertight.
I like the low profile look and I like the ease of closing the tailgate without having to lift the cover first.
So if anyone knows a place with good prices let me know thanks.
Pics would be helpful. Thx in advance

I've had an Extang Trifecta 2.0 for a little over a year and it's been good so far. In an absolute downpour a little water gets in, but I've otherwise been impressed with how water tight it is. Tailgate opens and shuts without having to manipulate the cover. I bought mine from Amazon and took advantage of the free shipping. It is a soft cover, not sure what your preference is, mine was pricepoint....

I have the Extang 2.0 Solid Fold. It is fantastic, I had one on my previous Tundra too. During a super downpour, a little bit of water gets in, but overall, it's pretty dry. Tailgate closes easily.

If you have a rail system, make sure to order the one that comes with the brackets for it. I got it from Autoanything.com @eccracer104 got me a crazy good deal. PM him and he will hook you up.

    Any questions, fire away...

Take your time, there are A LOT of options to pick between, but don't stress yourself out on finding the "best" one because there are many excellent options.

I think the installation must have a lot to do with the ultra flex. I also have one and I would say mine is 90-95% water tight. The water I do see tends to be if my cab is higher than my bed, a little water ends up right at the corners of the tailgate. Nothing bad, but a little.

I'm in the same boat as you OP. Been looking and researching for a long time for a good trifold with a good price. I will share some things I have discovered over the past little bit about our options.

I have been wanting a low profile trifold that folds all the way up against the cab and is still compatible with the deck rail system. Being compatible with the deck rail system knocks out Undercover tonneaus from my consideration. If you don't have deck rails that might be an option for you. Also it is my understanding that Autoanything's ProZ covers are just a rebadged Undercover flex exclusive to autoanything and you should be able to get a better price for it.

I have narrowed my options to a Bakflip cover like the MX4 or Fibermax.

I also discovered that Realtruck's Gator FX3 and FX are a Rebadged Fibermax and G2.

I would prefer the MX4 with the tailgate seal that allows you to close the tailgate without lifting the cover.

I have basically been searching for the best price quote so when my tax return comes in I can make a purchase. Here is some helpful information from my research.

All the big Tonneau cover are basically owned by the same company, Truck Hero. These brands also only allow websites to advertise certain prices set by the company. To get a better quote you must contact the company directly.

I have contacted the majority of these sites about the cover looking for the best price and to see if they would try to beat each other since they all advertise price matching.

What I came to realize is that the majority of these websites are all owned and operated by the same company so even though you on a different website you are still most likely talking to the same representatives.

For example Real Truck, Tonneaucoversworld, bakflip.com, gatorcovers.com, and a few others, are all operated by Real Truck which is part of Truck Hero

Autoanything is the other major site not affiliated with Real Truck.

So the process is really not very consumer friendly and I have probably gotten more than 20 quotes that have been all over the place. They basically just throw out a number to see if that sounds good enough for you.

I understand that they need to make money but it doesn't seem very american to me for companies to not be allowed to advertise the lowest price possible and compete against each other. That is my two cents.

So far the best price quote for a MX4 I have received is from truckalterations and svcustoms

Sorry for the long rant. Hope this helps someone

I have the extang tri-fold solid top. It's epic. Love setting my coffee or bags etc. while carrying my boy/putting him in seat. As said above, it's pretty dang water resistant (not water proof). It also is light weight enough to take off/put on for one person I've found in my case. $750-900ish I think I paid awhile back... Totally worth every penny.

I have the Toyota OEM hardcover one. Quite happy with it, and you can open and close the tailgate without lifting the cover. It comes with brackets that lower your rails, so you can still use those as well. The one thing it doesn't do is fold all the way up against the cab window. The last third stays in place.

I wouldn't mind the solid fold covers that sit on the bed caps...the deal breaker for me has always been bed access. With the Bak covers you can access 98% of your bed. When your bed is only 5 1/2ft long that makes a big difference.

That's why I ended up with a hard tri-fold. I really wanted a retrax mx pro, but the thought of losing the better part of a foot to the canister in a 5 1/2 foot bed was a bridge too far for me! I was looking at the Bak covers, but got a good deal on the undercover so that's the way I went. I didn't have installed rails so it worked out well. I also added two swingcases which are great under the cover. I have to open the cover to remove them, but I can access them no problem with the cover down and it gave me out of the way storage for tools, roadside flares etc. I have only used the driver side one with my stuff, so for scout trip next weekend I am turning the passenger side swingcase into a cooler for the trip. Ice and soda/water, and I can just remove it when we get to camp so it can be used by the tent and emptied out easily when done. We'll see how it works!

Yes. I actually installed a Rugged Cover today. Install was ok. Everything lined up. Tailgate takes a little more effort to open but I contribute that to the tailgate seal on the cover being new and tight. I think it will loosen over time.
Can’t give any feedback since I installed it today but I will in probably about a month of use.

To be honest right after I bought this cover I found out about the Diamondback cover. I probably would have bought that instead.
I like this cover though, really easy to take off in a pinch if you had to.

It was down to the Rugged Cover and the Extang Solid Fold. I read some horror stories about the Extang. Some people said it leaked really bad and some didn’t. More reviews I read said it leaked.
I made the decision to go with Rugged Cover because I really didn’t read any negative reviews and on the plus side it has built in LED lights on the cover.

Looks Good! If I was going for a cover that sat on the bed I would probably go for the rugged cover. Those flush covers that fold all the way up against the cab have my eye right now.

What steered you away from the MX4?

Thanks, I had a MX4 on my previous truck (F150). It was nice and all but it did leak a little more than I liked and the rubber edges of the cover aged really quick. The top of the cover scratched very easily also. It was more of a hassle to take off compared to the Rugged Cover. Also the reviews on the MX4 here kind of steered me away from getting one for the Tundra. Didn’t want to relocate the cargo management rails and all that.

I have the MX4 with the plates that lower the deck rails a couple of inches. I love it. I’ve gotten just a tiny bit of leakage only when it pours. Highly recommend it.

From what I have read the MX4 tends to leak near the tailgate and people have been able to remedy that with some extra weather stripping or seal. I'm not worried about a little water as long as it would keep the majority of things from getting soaked while on vacation and such.

I do worry about the longevity of the MX4 quite a few reviews mention that for the price they thought it would be better quality.

Another thing I have wondered is if you could just buy the bracket kit from BAK and then use it to install the other flush mount covers that don't offer it.

Love my Rugged Cover as well. Had it on since October and we’ve had a pretty harsh winter so far. No problems whatsoever, except the tailgate being understandably difficult to open at times due to ice. I actually fold it, then stand on it to get some height when shoveling roofs off. Extremely sturdy and sharp looking. BB462216-D539-457F-B4F6-53075D968C28.jpg

@ScarWars I am in the same market too... i love the bakflip mx4 and have a good price on one now, its low profile and very clean. that said.. i like what you mentioned about your rugged cover. Its not terrible looking, it does sound like the cover comes off quickly if needed. have you had any leaks yet? I tried reading to see what you said, but i may have scrolled fas.

still in the market and trying to read up on other options.

It comes off super quick. Don’t have to relocate rails and no leaks so far. It has only lightly rained since I put it on so I will report back when it sees a storm. Plus I like the way the cover looks better than the flush ones. Just personal preference. I thinks it adds a little ruggedness look.
